DELL Inspiron 8200 3DMark score

I was at PC Magazine looking at their latest articles on desktop replacement notebooks, and out of curiousity looked at their performance tests:

Take a look at the DELL Inspiron 8200's score - that's 7000+ - very near or just about the same as the Sager 5660. This is pretty strange - as it's always been my impression from other posts that the Sager's faster than the 8200.

hmm...Look at the compaq 2800T. It scored a 6373 with a 2ghz whereas dell scored a 7034 with a 2.2ghz. I doubt the .2 ghz would make 700 pt difference so there must be something else. Tweaking aside the only thing I can think off is the clock/memory speed of the 9000m on the inspiron8000 is bumped up higher than compaq's or maybe even sager's Anyone know for sure?

I am strongly skeptical against this benchmark or any benchmark done by anyone who relies on huge advertising support. PCMAG is supposed to be in Chapter 11, so anything they say about their core sponsor should not have any valid credibility.

I have been seeing benchmarks of I8200 floating around various forums on the Internet, and have yet to see one that goes above 7000. I am sure they probably did something to tweak the machine and run it under some unrealistic conditions.

My I8200 scored 6870 with a 2.0 GHz processor, so just over 7,000 doesn't seem at all unrealistic for a 2.2 GHz processor.

the 2800T should score just a little under the I8200 because its smaller, thinner, and has better battry life

also as vanfanel mentioned about the 2800T being 200mhz slower than the I8200, can it make that much of a difference?
not sure about the big ~650 difference about about 300-400 should be reasonable
another thing you have to keep in mind is the compaq is known to be a slower as I mentioned above so the ~650 gap seems realistic

Actually CPU speed will not have much of an impact on 3dmark however I believe the discrepency here is due to the differences in default clock speed of the Radeon 9000 on each platform. This is most likely the case with the compaq as well.

If I'm not mistaken there were two versions of the M9 chip, an integrated memory Mobility Radeon 9000 and the discrete Mobility Radeon 9000 (source: anandtech) Anyone know which is in each laptop brand or why such a huge discrepency in default clock speed?

What were you're overclocked settings?
