blah temps

Just finally got the guts to crack open the case and AS5 my GPU (as well as pop my 1.83 yonah for a 2.0 merom) and all seemed to go pretty well, i scraped off to the best of my ability the thermal crap on the heatsink and gpu core and used some acetone on the heatsink. Then I put a little AS5 on the heatsink, rubbed it in, then wiped off. Then I put a dab on the core and rubbed that in, then put everything back on and locked up, and put the whole thing back together and I've been starin at my temps for awhile, im idling at like 62 currently, i feel like thats too high but I can't remember what I idled at b4.

did you remove the silver thermal pad before applying the compund, there is a thermal pad under the grease on the stock cards, is there good contact with enough as5?

i cud see the core, i scratched off the grayish crap, unless its a see through thermal pad, im pretty sure i got everything off. I think I put on enough AS5, my though was maybe I put on too much AS5, how can I tell if there's good contact? The case was such a bitch to open up, took me like an hour to just remove screws so I guess i'll deal with that tomorrow

the temps are climbing slowly. I left my laptop in standby and then went out and came home and my GPU climbed very slowly up to about 51 where it is now and I imagine it'll go up into the 60's again but its taking awhile. The CPU is at 45. Its like maybe going up a degree per minute. Maybe the stuff just has to sit there for a bit? IDK

just ran 3d mark (8500 stock clocks) with i8kfangui running and i came back to see that I had reached a peak temp of 80 on my GPU and 77 on my CPU. Is that normal/safe

went back in the case, didn't apply anymore AS5 but smoothed out the AS5 that was already there. It was looking kinda splotchy so I smoothed it out. I know you're not supposed to make it thick so I made sure not to but my temps are still creeping up. My GPU is at 59C atm but it took like 11-12 minutes for it to get there

Dude my 9300 with the 6800 Ultra hits 97 on my gpu. check it out. This was after 2 rounds of golf.

thats really hot, but also i think the 6800 just runs hotter. And i'm talking idling, i'm not playin any games atm, its at 65 rite now, it doesn't really go higher than that cuz then the fans go on a little bit, but i'm just startin to get frustrated lol, i don't wanna go back in the case

well i just ran 3dMark again, this time overclocked to 550/650 and the temp peak was still 80 so at least its not getting hotter, why does nothing ever work for me

What were your temps before AS? I hit 80C and i'm stock except for mild OC.
Both of my 7900GS cards will creep up and kick the fan on low when idle.

Unless you got a bad thermal pad, i don't see what AS is going to do for you. Some of the claims appear a bit off for AS.

doesn't it take about 200 hours before the as5 starts to work properly? even then it may lower it 4-7 degrees c

i can't remember what my temps were b4 AS5. I do know that I'm running @ 550/750 and my temps don't go above 82 and thats after 2 hours of BF2142. I was more concerned with idling b/c my temps don't idle, they start at like 40 and go up to 65 in 20min or so and then fans bring em down again. It takes awhile for them to rise but they do
