Build Quality?

I usually am more verbose, but this is a simple question so I'll ask it simply.

How does the build quality on the current macbooks/macbooks pro stack up to other laptop manufacturers? Like say, lenveno or however the hell you spell it. (firefox spellcheck dropped the ball on that one...)

I have never used a Lenovo but, compared to dell, i think my macbook is much more study than my XPS Gen 2, ESPECIALLY when it comes to the monitor hinge. On my Dell the hinge sounds and feels like its going to break off when i move it, and it's wobbles horribly. Other than that, the plastic quality is higher, it's a similar comparison between plastic in a Lexus and plastic in a Chevy... its just feels like there is more substance to the plastic in the apple/lexus, thus giving it a more firm feel. I also love the keyboard, the key clicks feel more solid than on any other keyboard I have ever used.

can't comment on lenovos or the new macs from experience...but if the older IBMs (T2x and T3x) and iBook G3/G4 are reletively the same...then the build quality is well...about the same.

if i am not mistaken the older Powerbooks were built by ASUS and iBooks by Compal, and currently both MB and MBP are build by Quanta (i think). Quanta is the same company that builds many Dell, HP, and Toshiba systems.

Any difference in quality between the macbook and pro? I'm just trying to find reasons to justify the $400 more dollars the pro costs...

ive had both. mbp hands down.

there are several obvious advantages the pro has over the mb. just have to decide if you want a nicer machine for the money.

Yeah, I'm just thinking the 15 incher might be too big.

I just wished their was a 13'' pro, because i like the aluminum over the plastic used in the book, and the fact that they have a real 3d accelerator. I also haven't tried to use the mb for an extended period, I hope the screen doesn't strain my eyes...

I was curious about the build quality in general as well. If the keyboard is good then count me in, thats my biggest pet peeve is a nice keyboard.. Screen size I think i could deal with

the pro isnt much bigger. and the stuff it offers far outweigh the fact thats its 1.4" longer, and battery life only at 4hrs tops.

not even a close decision for me. and i owned a mb for a year, it was a great little laptop. but man the pro just eats my old mb for breakfast

make sure not to lump the build quality together simply bc of sharing a mutual manufacturer. each brand has their own specifications, choices of materials (and quality thereof), and tolerances regarding build quality. one company will contract for a cheap ass nascar notebook to sell, simply bc they can and some guy with beer and pit stains on his wife-beater will buy it, while another such as apple will contract for a MBP. BIG difference.

each brand weighs and balances how much they want to make in profit margins vs. how they want their brand to be represented by way of the actual quality and finish of the product.
