Hi
I have a d900t (not alienware) and i get on boot a message "Operating System Not Found"
I thought that the Hard disk crashed , so i bought a new one. And still i get the same error.
Please help me , i love this machine.
Thanks

When you purchased the new one, did you format the drive and install windows on it? I mean, you do have to have an installed OS for it to boot to on the new drive.

You also will need to turn off your card reader in BIOS in order to format the disks properly.

If you are using a RAID array, your chances of losing the OS is greatly increased over a single drive config. You can try to rebuild the raid array without activating it and without overwriting the boot sector, that is what I had to do when I lost my OS the first time. My OS was still there, the array was just broken.

It seems like you have currupted files on the harddrive. You will need to install windows on the new drive you purchased.

Give me some more details, I will check back with ya.

have you solved your "no OS found" problem?

I cannot format the new hard drive because it can not find any hard disc.
Lets start from the begining/
I was playing cod2 mp and while i was playing, the pc crashed , so i restarted it and i got the os not found error. I thought that it was a virus or something so i booted from the windows xp cd to re install the windows , but i discovered that there was no hard drive. So i thought that the HD crashed and i bought a new one. I properly installed the new hard disc and uninstalled the old one, and i booted again from the windows xp cd and again it cannot find the hard drive , and i still get the "operating system not found" error.
I formated my pc lots of times , and i know what to do.This is not something new 2 me.
And yes , i dissabled the card reader

Whats the problem ? I just hope that its not a mob issue and its something else.

its a motherboard issue that is causing the IDE controller not to work. Sorry but this is what will solve your problem.

LorisM4rcos...

I believe with the d900's, you have to load RAID controller drivers for the system to recognize the hd's, whether you use RAID or not. I've seen a couple issues here that were solved by reloading the controller drivers as they'd somehow been corrupted...

If that's not it, it's probably a mobo component failure...

You can get parts for the Clevo d900t from rjtech.com if that's the case.

Here is AW's knowledge base article on windows installation on the d900.

And here's their article on adding the RAID drivers after windows has been loaded and you get errors...

Thanks Hammerhead
but i know how to install the ata drivers. Like i said before , i installed windows on my pc lots of times.
But , thats not the problem.
Before the os not found issue , my pc should say tx2 plus ..(hard disc name) , but it doesnt . it wond load the ata controler , nor the raid controler.
I did some research last night and i red that when the vga is overheated , it melts the solder on the ide port on the motherboard.
Coult that be it?

Yeah, it could be the Cable .

How can i find out if it's the cable
check your cable it should have a small black dot like 1/2 and inch away from the mobo connector, it will look like something complete insignificant, if it doesnt have the dot, then try to get a replacement from AW if you are still in warranty, if not try for them to sell you one, and if your cable has the dot, then the mobo needs to be replace or fix, the problem is a cold solder on the promise controller chip, sometimes you can fix it just by soldring again, but most of the time it needs a new mobo. get a 6.1 for better results

Oh and something else.
Sometimes after allot of restarts, it shows the "tx2plus 387 promise controller" on boot , and then it boots in 2 windows , but after a while i get a blue screen.

you can actually see the dot already to the rigth of the 1 teh last number on the rigth, is a very small black dot

if you are getting that error sounds more like the controller its ****t up, anyways check the cable just for teh heck of it but i think you need a mobo replacement

yeah..? I'm not doubting your knowledge isaac, but I just are not smart enough to figure that one out.

jaja is not what the dot will do is what it represents :P

the dot represents a new revision of the cable, the first revision will broke very easilly this new one is supposed to be better

I had a similar problem with my m7700. I believe the heat killed the mobo in my system. I had the same problem 3 times all needed a mobo replacement. I would try a new cable first before going that far as that is a cheaper route. If it won't see the drive even after loading the 3rd party drivers for the controller then it is most likely a failed mobo.

can any1 supply a photo of where the promuice control chip is on the mobo so i can solder it back on?

Hey everyone! First post! Not to resurrect a REALLY old post or anything... but I recently fixed a laptop with the "Operating System Not Found" message and the RAID controller not being detected...

I took the laptop apart and took a soldering iron to both the HDD cable connector and to the controller chip itself... Heated and re-tinned all the pads and the laptop worked like a champ!!

Cheers!
