Fan Control Software

Thread Starter
So I purchased my brother a Compaq (the model number eludes me) for Christmas. I know with my Dell I have a fan control software (3rd party) that I can use to regulate the speed of my fans. Did a quick forum search and didn't find anything for Compaqs. Is there anything out there?

Thanks in advance.

SpeedFan has been mentioned so many times at NBF, it must be pretty good. Can't vouch for its effectiveness though, because I've never used it myself.

SpeedFan is good...if you know what your doing. Obviously is your laptop is getting too hot then SpeedFan might be useful...or if the fan is wasting your battery.

Whoa, calm down there. You bumped a 4-year-old thread to say that? I'm sure you can find more productive uses of your time.

I wish anyone would post an answer to this question so I don't have to put an ugly A** laptop cooler on my brushed aluminum probook...thumbdown.gif

Are you using this laptop on a desk or other hard surface or on your lap? If the latter, you are blocking the vents and causing heat build up...if you want to use it on your lap, find a rigid portable platform to put it on while on your lap

All the vents are on the sides and back. There are no vents on the bottom on purpose. This is a new design to prevent the heat build up from bottom vents. It still gets really warm though. If I could some how turn the fan on high and leave it on high it would stay cool all the time, thus adding hours, days, and maybe years to the life of the laptop. I have IK8FANGUI running on high on my Dell Inspiron 6000 (which I got in 2001) and it's never had a problem with anything internal. Only the screen needed to be replaced from being cracked. I would like to do this same thing with my HP but it looks like no matter how hard I look, there is no way to adjust the fan myself. I've been looking for 10 days online in 8 different forums. LOL

It might be easier if you compile a list of the utilities that you have tried so we arent duplicating
