In short:
To replace my combo dvd/cd drive,
Any opinions on slot load vs. "drop in replacement" tray load?
i.e. Pioneer K06 vs. K16. Other brands exist but Pioneer seems highly recommended
and the laptop has this originally.
In long:
In a dv1000 ( 14", intel centrino, July '05 ) laptop,
the dvd drive is flaky - cleaning did not help.
I'm faced with replacing the DVD/CD drive and 2 options appear attractive:
Pioneer is the DVD drive, I believe it is model K15.
"slot load" seems to be a popular feature .. but it would not be drop-in identical.
- K16 is the "current model" shipped by Pioneer, available for $75 - $85
It has the same "tray load" so the current faceplate / bezel should pop on it.
- K06 is identical (apparently?) except it is "slot load"
BUT WILL IT FIT ?? and, will it suffer more from dust intrustion?
At minimum, the new drive would probably be recessed, as HP (like Dell),
use their own bezel on tray loaders and it sticks out a few MM.
