AW m5750

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of getting this:
here
I've been looking around quite a bit, including hypersonic, asus, cyberpower, and many others. It is going to be used primarily for gaming, but it won't be my main gaming machine. I like that it has the x1800, where as many others in the price range just have the 7600. This just seems like a good deal, which I'm surprised to find on AW. What do people think? Also, if I'm gaming will I be happy without upgrading the resolution?

Also, I've only selected 512 ram, because I figure I can get more from newegg and install myself, since upgrading on AW is $160! I've never cracked open a laptop b4, but I have built desktops. Is it easy to do? Is there anything to worry about opening up a new lappy?

you know the keyboard on that model sucks, right?

I wouldn't go for the m5750 unless they had a deal on it. As the dell e1705 with a coupon offers more for less. The 7900gs is marginally better than the x1800 (5-10% in real world apps), but the 7900gs overclocks very well, while the x1800 can't o/c for crap. If you o/c the 7900gs to it's max, you saved $400 since it reaches near the speeds of the 7950gtx in the dell m1710.

If you're curious about resolution, I suggest you go to a store and see what you like.

If you already have a gaming machine, then why don't you go for a more portable laptop (14 inches) with an x1700. You can get the asus a8jp @ newegg for $1300.

Yes changing ram is easy, there should be a guide in the forum (for your particular laptop) if you have any trouble.

i have its predicessor model the m5700 and i love it. the machine is great and personally i have no problem with the keyboard. unlike what the previous poster said it doesnt suck at all. upgrading ram is very easy to do and you can get great deals at newegg, it should be no trouble at all for you. Rickster my question to you is have you ever used an alienware m5700 or m5750 laptop? if not how can you possibly pass judgement on the quality of the build or the components included within it?

i use my machine mainly for work but i have no doubt for your casual gaming and on the road it will work wonderfully. you should not have any need for worry.

The 5750 is a nice system.

Oh, there is an Alienware section on this message board. Stop by and talk to some people who have had experience with that model.

I also have the later 5700 version and the keyboard is one of the best parts. Most lappy keyboards have a certain "spring" to them, the AW sits flat and never bounces.
