New N8887 owner and many flaws - Page 2

I think you said 9. If you did, grab the uninstaller and put 8.1 (was it?) on and try that. Otherwise, upgrade to 9 if you have a lower version. Good luck!

Yes I have directx9 but does anyone know how I can do a clean install of directx9? I want everything old out and all the new in. Directx9 still has that line on it, its really pissing me off.

You can do a system restore from a point before you installed it to start over. Other than that I don't know short of reinstalling the OS as the easiest and for sure way to get what you currently have on... off when dealing with DirectX.

You can just type dxdiag in the run window and it should run no matter where it is..

If you dont have a restore point, you need to format to return to 8.1, if you have got 8.1 try updating to 9, either way, sounds like a hardware problem to me, so if formatting does not solve it, an RMA wil be required.

It seems video RAM problem to me. Usually Windows only use a very small amount of video RAM for 2D display. But if you have, say, some bad memory block in upper address, the 3D functionality in DirectX would use those upper addressed VRAM. That explains why it shows up in all teh games in teh same place. also when you switch resolution, the position changes.

And OpenGL might have different way to use VRAM, that's why you didn't see it in OpenGL games.

Just my $0.02

foolhaha, i think you are right because what you said happens all the time to me. when i change res, it shows up in different spots. So should I rma this?
I would do a totally clean install (Windows -- neither update nor repair, all latest drivers, directX, and so on) first, (of course, ignore me if you've already done it). If teh problem still there, I would definitely get a rma

if it shows up in different places at different resolutions then it most likely a software problem.

Ummm, no. I've tryed every version of DIRECTX and every different versions of the ati drivers. Nothing works, its either bad video ram or bad video card. Doesn't matter anymore because I sent it back for a refund and ordered a new one with 3.06 ghz

You'll have more or less the same config I have... I found out that tuning your machine is necessary to bring out the best of it. I was disappointed of it until I fixed some things ...

1) Turn off system restore. I turned it off on the drive my games are installed
2) Install Intel Application Accelerator and set drive(s) to max performance
3) Install 3dtweak 3.8. The app has neat stuff like putting the desktop to 800X600 before entering a game, clearing desktop image, clearing memory, game profiles, etc... which improves game performance.
4) If your machine doesn't come with the HT bios on, please update/reinstall your drivers after installing the bios.

As far as performance is concerned, I've never (NEVER) seen a system handle BF1942 better than my 8887 does... It tears up desktops in performance. One thing I would change in your setup, though, is the 4200 rpm hard drive... eek, big no no in my book. Glad to hear you got HT, though. It's pretty darn cool :-) As far as the problem is concerned, I would agree that it's either something with your video RAM or with directx... but since you reinstalled dx several times and with several versions, I'm guessing it's prolly hardware. Let us know how the new system goes!
