USB ports toast?

Hi Guys, I am having a serious problem with all four of my ports, they are not reading anything but will charge a device, which is odd.

I have:
Reinstalled device applications (for camera, smartphone, etc) that use the ports
Removed and reinstalled all drivers for USB
Checked they are enabled and working properly
Tried turning off McAffee Firewall
Tried other cables and they worked
Plugged my cables and devices into a desktop and confirmed they are working fine
Performed a system restore

None of these things will work, and my USB ports are useless.

Any advice? They had been working just fine up until the 10th of December, then, nothing. Every port worked, and I confirmed they are not over utilized past their performance ability.

HELP!!!!!!!!!

What type of laptop is it?

I would check my device manager and look for red X's or yellow ! on the list to see what is causing the problem. If there charging devices there getting power so it could be bad drivers or a confilct somewere.

Couple of things you can try... First try going into the device manager and under each USB Root Hub properties page, go to the power management tab and uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power". Reboot and see if it makes any difference. As a general rule, APCI will shut down the data streams to the ports when they are inactive but will leave a small current there to continue charging devices. It also keeps the devices from being redetected when changing power states, so you don't have to hear the bong sound of it re-associating itself. If this doesn't do it, I would certainly try reinstalling Windows from scratch to see if this alleviates the problem. If those two things don't do it for you, you will more than likely need a motherboard replacement.
