Windows Vista : What's your Windows Experience Index Base Score? - Page 3

I just got my laptop up and running with Windows Vista Ultimate. I purchased a Clevo M590KE chassis from RJTech.com and parts from various vendors (mostly ewiz.com) and got what I think is a pretty sweet setup. Here are the specs:

Barebones Chassis: Clevo M590KE with 20.1" screen
Processor: AMD Turion X2 TL-60 (2.0 GHz)
Memory: 2 x 1GB (2GB total) DDR2 667 RAM running in Dual Channel mode
Video: nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX 512 MB
HDD: 2 x 120GB HDD (240GB total), RAID 0 config

Looks like my AMD Processor is my only bottleneck.

Processor: 4.8
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 5.9
Primary Hard Disk: 5.6

(running @3.16) I think the index is hosed though. I have run sevaral tests on multiple machines & have different scores with the same exact components heh.

When I got the rig (See sig sans 1GB RAM) back in March the DataStore shows that the scores were:

Processor: 4.5
Memory: 4.5
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 5.6
Primary Hard Disk: 4.9

I got another identical 1GB RAM a week later and the Graphics and Gaming scores plummeted to 2.6 and 3.3 respectively. I recently downgraded my nVidia driver from the modded one I've been using and now I'm sitting at:

Rig runs most games great on High/ Very High settings so I don't know whats up with the low scores. Its annoying though that I can't get them back up where they should be.

Brilliant....i thought only i had that problem. I got a score of 4.5 for the RAM which is 2GB-667mhz....seems like only DDR3 can cross th 5.0 barrier..

Dell Precision M90
2GB RAM DDR2
512mb Quadro 3500m

on my desktop I had like 5.2-5.3 for my RAM (simple dual channel DDR1, 2GB), and my lowest was my processor at 5.0

but then after I changed my motherboard my RAM score dropped down to 4.0 i'll probably have to adjust some things to get it back up, havent had the time to sit and figure it out

just FYI The experience index scores can be easilly forged (not that people would ever do that). It's as simple as editing the numbers in a file.

4.7 here - the limits are both the memory speed and the hard drive speed (I opted for size over speed on the hard drive - it's a 250 gig 5400rpm). Other scores are 5.6 CPU (overclocked @ 2.83GHz), 5.9 graphics, 5.8 gaming graphics. RAM is Patriot 667MHz from Newegg (not the stock dell stuff)

just upped my RAM score in my desktop up to 4.8 by correcting my incorrect setup so my RAM was back to dual-channel. should be able to get it up over 5 again when I put my second RAM pair in (which has been out for a few months, well before this motherboard upgrade)

it's because Dell have CPU overclocking via BIOS(it overclocks only CPU(no RAM), i overclocked my CPU with Clockgen(it overclocks both FSB and RAM frequency, so i have now around 185FSB and 370MHZ RAM speed instead of 166 and 333MHZ) this is why RAM speed is higher than in your dell and also it somehow increased hard drive speed a little (i also have advanced performanced enabled in hardware policies), as for stability it runs more than fine(35-45 degrees -CPU in desktop mode and around 55-60 degrees in games), as for hardrive tempreature it always stays around 52-55 degrees

LOL...........Well, I wouldn't put too much stock in Vista's WEI scoring scam, all of that could change w/ the arrival of a Vista Service Pack, I score a 3.0 to a 3.2 on my notebooks (both of them) but it's important to remember that, it's just an Microsoft scoring scam, and it's NOT written-in-stone

Scam?

I will say that it's not the most useful value, as there are no specific units or explanation, but it certainly seems to be fairly consistent

Yes a MS Scoring Scam, a way for people to go out and spend hundereds of dollars upgrading Hardwear just to get a higher WEI Score, foolish people will do just that, so therefore IT'S A SCAM!!! it's not a scam if you aren't dumb enough to fall for it...........
you cannot consider it a scam unless you take every benchmarking program with ties to hardware manufactures & place it in the exact same category.

Granted the WEI is a crude index of performance, but I do not think it meets the criteria of a scam. Anyone that solely basis their hardware choices on an index score is not a informed buyer & is going to be in trouble the second they walk in a store, WEI score or not.

This has already been covered in this THREAD: no need for a 2nd Thread on the same Topic http://www.notebookforums.com/thread186429.html
