I hope this is ok to post this; however, here is a response from Allen at Sager Tech Support:

Hi George, we do not have the driver for Vista yet. Please hold on. We hope all the manufacturers will release the device drivers for Vista soon.

I’m considering getting a hold of Vista to install on my Sager 9860/9890 laptop. Now remember, my laptop is a hybrid due to motherboard replacement. You put in a 9890 motherboard, however, we kept my Nvidia 6800 Go GPU

So, HOW do I install Vista?

Do I need to press F6 (like I do when installing XP) in order to load the SATA driver from the floppy?

What about drivers for all the hardware? Will Vista recognize?

If you had a “step by step” instruction guide, that would be GREAT!!

Thanks!

I'm not sure Sager will give step by step for older Sagers that were not made with Vista in mind. Vista does not use the F6. It give you the option of using other places besides the floppy drive to find the ATA/RAID Drivers. I don't plan on using it on my 9860 because no sound drivers work. But hopefully someone that has a later model like the 9880-90 will do a step by step.

i'm hoping drivers will work for my hybrid ... my laptop was orginally a 9860 but after 2 motherboard blowouts, i have the 9890 motherboard... the only vestige of my old 9860 is the nvida 6800 video card

Just found vista Nvidia drivers on LaptopVideo2go (http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/index....3&type=1&dir=1).

It adds the Nvidia control panel but appears to be the same as the default driver in terms of performance.

This is a [partially edited] email that I sent to Sager about an hour ago...
along with an [automated?] response just a few minutes after (see below).

Dear Sager,

I plan to install Windows Vista Ultimate on my Sager NP9860 but noticed that your
support site does not offer any drivers for this operating system. Do you have plans
to release Windows Vista Drivers for the NP9860 / D900T notebook? If so, when will
they be available?

Also, will Vista install properly on the NP9860 notebook (using the built in Vista drivers)?

Sager's reply....

Subject: Windows Vista Drivers for NP9860? (Case:8345)

Sorry, NO Vista Drivers and NOT Planning to have Vista Drivers for model:NP9860.

FWIW I got Vista Ultimate x64 running on my 9890, but it isn't really easy, and several things will not work. You have to bypass Driver Signatures on every boot, Bluetooth doesn't work with my Plantronics headset, which I use for Skype when I'm out of the country, the TV tuner and webcam won't work either. The post in this forum about x64 Vista running on a 9880 will give you most of what you need. The only real drag is Bluetooth and the Driver Signature thing though. Maybe there will be a BT dongle with Vista drivers that will work properly.
