IE problems on sister's Gateway

For some reason my sister's gateway won't let me do some things regarding internet explorer. I can't change the homepage via the settings, it always goes back to the google.com/ig/gateway page.

And worse I cannot upgrade from IE6 to IE7, it fails during the install.

Any help? I do not know gateway being an HP guy. Thanks

did she install that google toolbar? There may be a setting in the toolbar that forces IE to have google as its home page

review the start.up processes and see if something is out of whack

have u tried just download IE7 direct and then install it, instead of upgrading from 6 to 7?
