Hey I bought my laptop in July or so (Specs in my sig). I have heard a lot of people are getting free upgrades to Vista from Dell when it comes out. Is this just people buying new computer or is there a chance I will be able to get the upgrade from Dell. If not will they have a deal for us that have bought computers recently to upgrade? Thanks

its only for people who opted for the upgrade and bought thier lappy after Oct 26th

that being said, my best guess is that Dells OEM vista install will be just like thier XP install not require an activation. So in other words you will just be able to do an upgrade if you can get hold of an OEM disk

I have read a lot about the express upgrade, and it will only apply to people who have bought it with their computer package. I.E. - if you didn't have the option for the express upgrade at checkout, you don't get it. Also from what I understand, there may be a shipping and handling fee involved to have the Vista disc shipped to you. This may or may not be accurate for Dell, but the option is there for them to charge. MS offered the express upgrade to manufacturers, and each manufacturer had the option to charge a small fee for the upgrade, or just make it a freebie. Glad Dell chose the freebie option!

This may be true. However rumors (and nothing more that rumors) have floated around saying that the installation could be tied to an individual's service tag... I personally doubt that is the case, but since nobody knows for sure how the upgrade will work just yet its really anybody's guess..

Your Lappy is fine as far as vista goes

Yeah, your notebook is more than enough for Vista (any version) On a scale up to 5.9 (under the performance index used in Vista) your GPU will score 5.8 or 5.9 under the graphics bench, your cpu would score about a 5, the hard drive would be a 5 or 5.1 and the RAM would be like 4.7 or 4.8. Trust me on this you have nothing to worry about.
