I am not a fan of overclocking, nor do I recommend overclocking the CPU in a Laptop!

Agreed.

My laptop is on 24/7 it pretty much stays at 3.2... When I game.. then 3.4... its an option.. to each his own.

Its use at your own risk thats for sure... Dont push it.

On another note, I have also set up an Icon to Underclock it by half, still trying to determine if it helps battery life though.

I dont recommend ANY overclocking - CPU or GPU

When games run just fine under normal conditions why the hell do you want to OC ??

You damage your system
Reduce the life of the components
Void your warranty
etc. etc.

If games play poorly then it is time to OC - until then just resist the "silly" temptation.

i just wanted to see if it made any difference. I went from a 3.2 to a 3.4 and it made little to no difference in FPS for anything. Did AQUA bench and 3dmark03 bench and the results are the same if I ran my ATI oc'd to 500/300 constantly. I am putting it back at 3.2 b/c the extra generated heat isn't worth it.

However wouldn't you think that the 8790 is a special case, wherein the manufacturer took too conservative an approach? Adam certainly thinks so.

I think that when the Warranty has expired and the machine has matured a bit, then a "stab" at overclocking might be reasonable as an alternative to purchasing a new configuration (stop gap measure). IMHO - the GPU settings on the 8790 were done to offset the heat of the Prescot's that could be included in the configuration.

I'm also in the non-OCing club. I just fail to see where the pay-off is. What great result am I going to achieve vs. the risk that I'd be taking my OCing my CPU?

Nope. I don't get it.

Still No Word On Credit

Sager signed for the returned machine on 4/12/2004 at 09:41 CA time. As of today, I have not heard anything about the refund credit. Odd that it takes so much less time to post the debit than the credit.

On another note. Seriously considering ordering my replacement machine directly from Sager rather than PC Torque(PCT). It appears that since I purchased my initial machine, PCT prices are now higher than those of Sager and a few of their competitors. Couple that with PCT going with an Insurance carrier other than Phillips (want 1st year from Sager plus and additional 3 years - PCT does not appear to offer this coverage) and their 2 Day Air Shipping costs, they may no longer be a viable option for me. Don't know for sure; however, if the situation does not change by the time that the credit is posted, this is the way that I am leaning.

Additionally, If I order directly from Sager, I'll get a "Hard Copy" Invoice - something that I didn't get on the first order. I need that for the 0% loan (1 year) that my employer provides for technology purchases.

Hopefully, I'll get the credit next week. If not, then I guess I'll be sending a bunch of emails.

Take Care,

It takes approx 2 weeks to get the credit. Sager received my returned laptop on the 5th. I got the credit from PCT on the 17th. You probably will see the credit next week. I would wait until Tuesday before firing any email to PCT.

You're right about PCT price increase being more than Sager direct. I am now having second thought about buying from PCT, though I am rather reluctant to purchase from Sager since their customer service is questionable. I dont know. That's why I am still using my PII 266. The only game I can run on this machine is solitaire and Minesweeper, probably the 2 best game of all time

I was going to be a bit more patient - Like Thursday or Friday. Then we are looking at May for a replacement (How time flies) and maybe some word on that WSXGA+ screen that **others** claim may be available - Or was that June.

I dont care much about WSXGA. I dread that everything is going to be so small I will need magnifying proggies. To me WXGA is good enough albeit the screen could be a little brighter. I cringed looking at 15'' UXGA. Headaches

WSXGA & UXGA are completely different. The current screen is like a XGA and the new one will be like SXGA. I am comfortable with the SXGA (Wear glasses and still find it OK). Vertical space on WXGA is 900 and 1050 on the WSXGA a little bit of difference; however, not as drastic as 1200.......

Also, with WSXGA the chance of getting/developing dead pixels is greater since there's now more pixels per SQ inch.

Free Shipping Was Not Free

Well, the credit posted to my account last night. I was refunded what was originally charged minus the "In transit shipping Insurance $30", and then another $30 that was apparently for the "Free shipping". Odd that I didn't pay the shipping in the first place and they simply reduced the "system price" assuming that I had paid shipping. So was the free shipping really free or not free?
I think the shipping is free if you keep the laptop. If you return it then you will be chared for it...thats my take on it and I think it makes sense...

So whats the next step for you?

Playing the pricing game right now. I think that I will wait a few days and see what PC Torque does with their pricing, or order directly from Sager. The price difference will pay all but $9 of the 2Day Air Shipping cost. The PCT price went up $157 (Part of that is because the DVD-R/RW is no longer an option - have to get the plus/dash burners) and that does not include the cost of shipping.

Sounds Reasonable - Re: Free Shipping

The shipping is free if you keep the system. If you elect to return it, the shipping amount is deducted from the refund. So it is free as long as you remain the owner of the unit past 30 days. I am sorry for the confusion - we aimed to make that clear in the policy for this promotion (which is now gone since the promotion is over).

I hope that clears it up. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you!
Went back through the big stack of paperwork and found the original PCT "policy" printouts and that was what it said. It no longer states this because the prop is over. Sorry for the confusion.

I would wait G - RAM prices are the biggest problem now

They should drop right back pretty soon...

BTW - I suffered my first battery glitch - from 30% to shutdown but I got a BSOD so I am guessing its not battery related...Gah!

As long as they work these are the best systems out there...once they start giving trouble you are in the deep and

Gotta love it!!

The origional post was not from me, I pasted it from the zd7000 forums.
Thought it would strike a conversation not a bash due to your low self asteem.
