Fair trade?

A user on here wants to trade laptops with me.

Mine: MacBook Pro
2 GHZ Core Duo
256MB x1600
1GB RAM
100GB HDD
15" LCD

His: Dell e1705
1.86 GHZ Core Duo
512 MB GeForce 7900 GTX
1 GB
100 GB

is that a fair trade? s that a fair trade?
I'm just frustrated with Mac OSX. When things run slow, I don't know what to do to fix them, or how to do simple tasks like "Disk Defrag" or "Disk Cleanup" (like from Windows) or import just one photo from iPhoto instead of all 144 on my camera.

Depends on what you want to be doing on it. Do you game a lot? The 512MB card is pretty tempting, and you could always upgrade the proc later if you feel it necessary along with 2 gb of ram. Its really what your preference, the macbook would most likely sell for a bit more then the 1705, but any game would reach for it. Why dont you boot camp windows on your mac? Wouldnt that be the best of your worlds?

For me, i would go with the 1705, but it all depends on your preference. As for fair goes, i would say yes, thats a fair trade, but only if your going to get all the use out of the 1705 that you can get out of your macbook.

I hate macs, i'd rather have the dell

I think I would rather have the dell also, but I think the dell is "worth" more, seeing as how it is smaller, lighter, faster cpu, and has the ability to run both OSX and XP. Plus Apple's hardware is pretty overpriced so you could probably get more from selling the apple than selling straight out the dell; but if you crave the (much) better gaming experience then I guess it would still be a fair trade to you.

Yeah, its a pretty good deal... just keep in mind that the 7900GTX doesn't come in an E1705, so if it really has that card in it there is likely no warranty left on the machine. Plus to use the GTX in the 1705 there was a plastic tab that was broken off on the inside of the case to make it fit in there. Just want to make sure you know that its been modified

Well,

I'd be using it to game, use iTunes import and transfer music to my iPod, watch DVDs, and write school papers.
All things I could do with the MacBook Pro.

I just want something that I can keep for 3 or so years without having to worry about it getting TOO obsolete, which is where the 512MB card comes in.

Also, it has been modified, but he's including the original card, for warranty reasons.

oh so you get the 7900 GTX and the GS with the 1705? Is there still a warranty on the machine? I would likely go for this deal without the warranty and if there is a warranty I would jump at this deal. As has been pointed out you can upgrade the processor if you want to and it isn't a hassle. And I would def get 2 GB RAM for it right away too.

Definetly a good deal the GTX7900 Alone makes it sweeter but you get both cards? easily a great deal.

regardless of the warranty if your vid card goes you won't get a replacement as that card did not come with that notebook

you better ask him what the original card was because if it was an ATI card that is what you would get back in replacement and that card can't game to save its life

Sounds to me as though an important question is: How important is having/not having a warranty with the Dell?

Looks pretty good to me. But like said before, depends what you want to do with it. The vcard upgrade will be great for gaming! But you lose native MacOS Functionality (tho' I know how to get it to run great on these delly's, even with the nvidia cards). In return he is getting a processor upgrade, a lesser vcard, and the ability to dual boot win/macos...

both will game, the 1705 will smoke the mac, the x1600 will game mediocre but decent.

Decent trade IMO.
