Anyone else with 1710 get a new base and motherboard when ordered go 7950 gtx? They sent me my XPS M1710 and was sent 3 boxes when they sent me my GO 7950 GTX after to replace my go 7900 GS. One box contained a whole new base with motherboard inside, the second box the video card with heat sink plate with dual copper heatpipe and fins, and the third box with CPU heat sink dual heat pipe that extends and cools chipset on motherboard.
Thank you for your time and look forward to hearing some responses. I am adding this on Jan 9th, that the base and palm rest, motherboard and go 7900 gs with dual pipe heat sink is now on sale in the for sale threads. No offers on this thread please. Go check it out and respond over there if interested please. Thank you.

I haven't seen anybody prove that the 2 boards are different as of yet. If I am not mistaken (which I guess I could be...) there was at least one person in here who had obtained a 7950GTX and swapped out his 7900GTX for it. If you search around here you may find the post I am referring to (I am not sure what post it was anymore.) I have a hard time believing that Dell would change mainboards like that at mid-design when all it takes to enable a new video card is a BIOS update. Most likely you got ahold of a rather 'dumb' technician that either had no idea what was required to do the swap, or just sent everything that could possibly be needed just to be on the safe side. They did this to me just yesterday when I had a bad LCD, and they ended up shipping me the front bezel, the lid w/hinges, and the screen. I didn't need all that stuff, but the guy who installed it used it all anyway!

I remember seeing something about that but I could not find it anywhere. I think I remember reading something that someone did that and the frequencies were not where they were supposed to be. I am wondering if the board they sent allows more voltage because of the tweak in freq from the 7900 gtx to the 7950 gtx.
ANYONE ELSE. Oh ya, If someone finds that old post link it in here would ya. Much appreciated. Also if anyone knows the part numbers for all thoes parts postem or link em. WOuld like to know how much they are going for right now. Definatly would get rid of em. They sent the whole bottom section with motherboard and smartcard reader the whole top of base like the lightuptouchpad leds,s palm rest ect. the cpu or the chipset heatpipe and a GO7900GS 256mb card with the dual heatpipe and screws for all. Definatly keeping the new 7950gtx512mb. Thats for bloody sure. Yeah, they screw up, I get paid. They owe me anyhow. I waited 9 months to get the system the ways it was supposed to be in the first place. Yeah DUMB techs suck, and rule at the same time lol.

when dell sends you stuff, you have to send the old stuff back or get charged dell prices for them, so i doubt anyone has any extra stuff lying around
