"Oh happy days!"
Very Nice. I would have had my new notebook on the 9th or this month but I remembered how LCD's worked. I needed to bump my screen down from WUXGA to a WSXGA since the resolution I'll be using is 1680x1050. So instead of arriving on the 9th, it'll actually ship on the 9th It's my fault for not considerign the native resolution before my inital purchase.

Glad to hear your 8790 is still humming along. I would recommend you get a laptop cooler for your 8790 if you haven't already. Mine has been relagated to desktop/office application duty. The GPU artifacts.

Congratulations Nyako.
That's going to be a nice system.

It's gonna be funny watching the lil' girl run circles around the 8790.

Good buy!

Right on! Good to see you're going to moving up Hope the new machine treats you well (altho' personally it'd kill me to go to a small screen after having the 17" ).

Personally, I think you'll be much happier w/ the WSXGA. I've got both and definitely prefer the WSXGA. To each his (or her) own, but I really think the WSXGA is the best of the current resolutions available.

The good news: It's here!!!

The bad news: My digi cam decided to stop working two pictures in. I have pictures of the...box. A review is nothing without pics, so you're all gonna have to be patient until I get hold of another one!

This one took some great pics, but only occasionally and with more than sufficient light. A small update on the 5460 before the full-fledged review: Windows has been installed and updated. There were a couple of unknown devices, but they were found once SP2 was installed. Bluetooth works like a charm. Wireless seems to be fine too, because I was able to connect to an unsecured connection nearby, but when trying to connect to my own network, nada. But it's my fault for using complicated router firmware, and never spending enough time learning it. I am about to install NHC to set power-saving options. Some things that stand out to me, that I can't keep quiet until the review... What I love: The touchpad buttons are brushed metal, and the finger pad is that non-smooth plastic type, so it doesn't get sticky if you have a little bit of oil on your fingers. What I don't love: Okay, I didn't expect it to be, but the fan isn't exactly -silent-. I will have to determine whether or not it is a bother once I take it to its first class. I am interested to see how hot this machine runs once NHC is installed. Also, the ethernet port is TIGHT. I tried tugging that network cable out for a good minute or two, and stopped because I was afraid of breaking the computer.

you probably already know this, but Core 2 Duos have a locked voltage for their lowest multiplier. So you can probably make the fans not run as fast on load, but on idle, I'm guessing you've got what you've got.

Nyako, That is a great review and I love the pics. I'm impressed with the performance-for-the-price factor as well...

excellent review, nyako!

a couple observations:
If you're referring to your processor temp, 40 degrees Celsius at full load is amazingly cool, from my perspective. My notebook CPU is around 40 Celsius at idle, so that temp is very impressive!

and did I see a bongo drum in the background? wanna jam together?
