Anyone experiencing 'lag' on UT2004 OFFLINE!? (Inspiron 8600 related..?)

So this is odd. For some reason, I'm experiencing something that I can only describe as 'lag' whilst playing UT2004. I don't know why. It's like my controls stop responding every so often. Occasionally, my character will keep walking in the direction he's going as well after I've let go of the keys, which is also odd. Anyone got any idea why? UT2004 is the first issue I've had

The demo seemed to be fine though...

Also...is it normal for the 3D view in the ATiTool to be 'jerky'. It's super smooth and then jerks around a bit. I still seem to average 53fps though..

Please help...anyone?

Ugh....I've been trying all afternoon to make UT2004 work properly. I just can't make it playable. I thought maybe there was 'too much' going on, so I lowered some graphical settings, but it didn't help at all. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, but UT2004 is unplayable for me because the controls just don't work! I have no idea why, and I'm really miffed, since I just got my DVD edition with the headset.

have a look to see if there is a patch for ut2004 on the ut2004 website that is...

Nope no patches. Can you run ATiTool and tell me how many fps you have on the 3d object, and whether it's sporadically jerky for you?

sorry can't at the moment, at work, though I will do that and publish tonight, won't be for another 7 hours though as it's 11:00am here.

No problem! Thanks for any help you can give. I'm really sad that I was so excited to play....and can't It would certainly help to know how other 8600 systems are working...

that happens to me too. i dunno y. It doesn't for anyother game, so I'm assuming it's the game and not the 8600. What happens to me is the computer system speaker will beep and if i move the mouse or press any buttons it keeps beeping. if i let go of the controls the charecter still moves.

Yep I had EXACTLY that happen to me several times. The game 'stutters' as the beeps go on for several seconds. I've found that by lowering the sound quality to 'low', it seems to have fixed this. Also, I only have problems OFFLINE with BOTS. Online I don't seem to have any issues at all. Very odd!

Anyone else with problems?

Thanks! I had all details set to maximum in 1024x768 (except for shadows), and playing the Instant Action, Onslaught match type, on the level 'Primeval' with default bot arrangement, you experience the lag pretty bad. It's really odd. I have NO control lag online, with no bots. Been playing it all night!

I have your exact specs and running it on 800x600 EVERYTHING ON HIGHEST POSSIBLE and with 31 bots in botmatch (most stressful) the game was a tad laggish but nothing to what you describe perhaps its something else then? try it at 800x600 see if the problem occurs

ok it is NOT the game. i was playing counterstrike and it happened to me now. it must be the combination fo the mouse and keyboard.. i dunno. is there a different driver i can use for the keyboard?

i use a logitech mx500 mouse.

I am experiencing this same problem on my iXPS with UT2004. You start running around and all of a sudden you are going straight when you are trying to go left or right... very frustrating. It's almost as if the controls freeze up for a few seconds at a time. I loaded UT2004 up on my desktop system and I am not having the same problem on there.

I'm having those exact problems again. This is very frustrating. I feel like it only happens in games where you have to push the keys really fast, so I haven't noticed it in Warcraft 3 of course. Is there anything we can do about it? I can't play it and I splurged on the SE with the headset too!

Yeah, I pre-ordered and got the LE DVD version with the headset as well. After I get home today I am going to mess around with it and see if I can figure out why it is happeneing. The problem is not happening with UT2003 so something must be different with UT2004 - maybe a control setting somewhere in the game config screen. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I also tried the UT2004 demo and the problem does not happen there!

Geed -- Does the problem occur when running UT2004 on your Area-51m?

I never had a chance to try it on the 51m because I have it all boxed up and ready to ship out when it sells.
