Problem with HP dv4000... Any Help would be appreciated

My notebook has been giving me problems now for about 3 weeks... At different times the system starts to go haywire and takes anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours to be used again... Sometimes I'll almost get a blue screen of death and the screen looks muddled... I can make out the error message of Memory Parity Error??? Other times it will look as if the screen is black with loss of video signal (meaning lines going back and forth on screen). Any suggestions on what I should do would be helpful.

Please download and run MemTest...maybe there's something wrong with your system memory. Let MemTest Run for 12-24 hours and let us know the results.

Actually...let the community know the results...'cause I'm no expert and I may not be able to help you, but with that info others will help you.

Just in case it is overheating, you may want to clean the various vents around the machine. A vacuum cleaner would be a good start.

I agree that it could be an overheating issue. I've noticed that if I use my dv9040 on my bed it overheats. I've stopped using it on the bed but every once in a while I forget. Usually a quick puff of air into the vents brings the video card back online.

Hope this helps.
