Time is the only way to tell. Maybe Sony gets wise (lowering the price would do a great deal) and it turns around. Hard to prognosticate the life of a product 3 months into its release. The Moto RAZR suffered from short supply, harsh reviews, better competing products, and high prices when it released. Then it glutted the market, prices stayed high, and some people thought it was going to fail, but it's done anything but fail. (Still a crap phone tho).

As they say in the restaurant industry...
"You'll get poor feeding the rich, and get rich feeding the poor."

Sony needs to make the PS3 not just for the wealthy that can afford the console.

It's sort of ahead of its time in terms of its capabilities. Forget the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD war, even if it was compatible with both, only about 1-3% of the TV viewing population has a TV that can handle them anyway. Same with its stellar graphics. That is why I think it has more potential than some are giving it. As the market matures in High def movies, graphics, and sound, there will be more of a market for the system. The Wii doesn't utilize any of these, so there is no feeling of "I'm wasting my money because the equipment I have can't utilize this." With the PS3, for many people, it's not just a proposition of a $600 system, it's also the proposition of a $2,000 HDTV and maybe even a sound system.

The majority of consumers, let alone gamers, do not have HDTVs and the sound systems that cater to the PS3's potential. Why should a gamer spend $600 on a Blu-ray player/gaming console if they are content with their CRT TV and regular old DVD player.

Why do you think the original Counter-Strike is so popular? Its because it runs on older PCs, which the majority of consumers have. They feel no need to shell out thousands of dollars in order to get a prettier game, yet the same overall gaming experience.

Yeah but look what the PS2 did for the DVD player. I have to believe that the PS3 will cause everyone to out and buy multi-thousand dollar television sets because they now have access to the bluray

meh, I play the Wii on my 1080P LCD
This whole thing is alot like High End Video Cards and High End LCD Monitors that support Crazy Resolutions. Basically high end video cards aren't really all that great to have if you're still running on some Old CRT. Many peope in this forum have High end LCD monitors that pull some Amazing Resolutions with their Crazy SLI, or high end Video Card.

So what again makes you think that some people won't buy high end LCD's or HDTV's to play with their Gaming Consoles? I know for me I bought a high end LCD to watch both HDTV, and play games on a high resolution, and it provides a better gaming experiance. It's not just prettier looking, it's also MORE Viewing area. For instance when I was playing my NHL Hockey games I could never see the Left wing if I was the Right wing, Now with a HDTV I can see both sides of the rink at ALL times, and yeah I can basically almost see every player in the game. It makes a difference.

Makes a ginormous difference when playing split screen games also, like Mario Kart.
I got my first HDTV because I wanted HD, the second was an LCD for my 360 and the latest was just because a 37" 1080P LCD for $999 was too good of a deal to pass up. and it looks great in my kitchen

Remember this is my perception;

Yes, you guys can game on high-resolution TVs - but I feel that you guys are the exception rather than the norm in regards to consumers.

No one buys CRTs because LCDs are now very affordable. I bought my old Samsung 17" LCD 5 years ago for $700 - now it doesnt compare to my cheaper and far superior 19" LCD which cost under $200.

I believe that the majority of consumers are not compelled to buy High-Def plasma, DLP, or LCD TV sets until it becomes more affordable and main-stream. Mind you that many (the majority?) cant afford a PS3 along with a High-Def entertainment system. So they settle with whats affordable.

The thing with the Wii is that it appeals to those who dont normally play video games. I dont see any of my girl-friends playing Madden or CS:S, but alot of them do enjoy Wii sports.

BTW, those of you with High-Def TVs and sick stereo systems - hats off to you.

Perfect example, my daughter, who only plays The Sims on her computer, is currently operating on people with the Wii (Trauma Center)

and that 37" LCD was $600 less than a 26" LCD I bought last year. Those prices dropped Hard

Hey, dman...how does the Wii look on your 1080p tv???
I can't find a component connector (finding parts is also an issue with the Wii), so it's only playing at 480i, but it looks great. I know the Wii was never intended to be a serious eye candy machine, but I think the visuals are great.

arrrggghhhh...you guys are killin' me, but I'm thinking I'll have to pick one up when they show up locally. I love my DS-lite, so I'm thinking the Nintendo games will be fun.

The same thing can be said about High End Video Cards. I doubt that people with 7950's and SLI setups are still satisfied with their 17 inch LCD's. Something is telling me that they've at least got 19's, 22, or 24. Whatever it is I'm pretty sure it's nice. Otherwise there really isn't a point. And you can buy HD TV's for under 2 grand, I think that's very affordable, I mean I picked one up myself at that price.

I'm a pretty late adopter when it comes to TV stuff. Up until about 3 years ago, I still had the 14" Zenith (no remote control FTW!) that my mom bought for $400 back in the 80s for my room.

Just didn't watch enough TV to warrant it. But now with hollywood sucking and TV being some of the most entertaining stuff in the universe, I picked up a 27 in. I'll get an LCD or whatever some time. It's not a price issue for me, it's just a desire issue. I'll stay in hotels w/ flat screens and it just doesn't make me want it.

Good point in deed, if I got a PS3, i'd want to upgrade my 1080i dlp to a 1080p.

I got a 24 inch lcd when the 6800 ultras were out lol, my friend had upgraded to a 7800 running a 14 inch CRT, was the stupidest thing ever,,,hes finally upgraded and says its a whole new world on a 21 inch digital lcd.
