Well I still have hope for the Playstation 3 and I know in about a year it will be an amazing system to have, all the people I talk to who have it say that its a great system it just lacks the games. But I read the game lineup for 2007 and it sounds good. I to went to my local stores today and most of them had it in stock, I even got the chance to play around with one for about an hour and from what I played it looks and feels amazing its just a great machine. I am going to buy one in a Few weeks I am excited.

I will be picking up a PS3 60GB an extra controller, the ps2 memory card adapter thing, two or three games and a Wireless Keyboard and mouse for surfing the web from it.

I Know a lot of you will try to talk me out of it like a lot of my hardcore Xbox friends have. But I don't care I have done research on it and it has everything I want plus I am a Sony fan before Microsoft when it comes to consoles. I will get a 360 probably for Christmas next year, then I will have both. In the end I think it comes down to what you like.

One more thing about this price thing once you buy everything for both consoles to make them close to even as possible (AKA 360 High-def drive) they will cost about the same. Sony is not dumb they know they have to make games for it, and they will. Give them time like someone said before 360 has had a year start.

Cheers,
Freak

BTW I now Have 3GB of ram in my computer =p

Sony may not be dumb, but they are arrogant.

That being said, I plan on getting a PS3 once all the kinks have been found and ironed out, so probably about 6 months from now or so.

Enjoy the ps3.

Still, unless your goal with the 360/PS3 is to watch movies, then you shouldn't consider the 360 + HD-DVD option; to play games, the 360 costs $400. The PS3 costs $600.

If you're okay with the price difference, good for you! You're doing a good thing: I personally want Sony to do well with this console, otherwise we lose competition in the console field, which is never a good thing.

Having said all that: I look at the consoles right now for the games right now--the 360 looks to be more fun (the Wii maybe more so) right now. When the PS3 has killer games for it, I'll look long and hard at getting one. Hopefully the price will have dropped by then. Until these games come out...what's the point of having the console? Unless, once again, I'm looking to watch bluray movies.

I question why is the ps3 so expensive?

Is it cause it has a blue ray player and they can't make it only 400 cause then Toshiba and Samsung would go outta buisness on sales of the Blue Ray players?

I mean seriously, thats the ONLY reason I can think of why its so expensive, I remember when the 3D0 was that expensive and was a flop lol.

THe PS3 is expensive because "What Sony Item isn't Expensive?" Have you looked at what Vaio's Cost? LOL Alot of research and money goes into these products for Sony, and I feel that most of the time that huge price tag is not always for the actual product but for research. I mean I was always always scratching my head on why Vaio notebooks cost on average above 2 grand, yet all Vaio's have an average of 64meg video memory. Sorry, and I understand that not everyone is a gamer, but when you pay above 2 grand for a laptop you should get a little more then 64 megs of shared memory. Again, Sony has a long history of selling their products at a high price tag only to drop them down later on down the road. Perfect example are with their TV's. The PS3's test is not on the actual product though, it's on the software development. The PS2 although many people feel was a hit, was actually a failuer in term of Sony's Software Development Company also known as SCEA. (I have a freind who works for There, and it's the main reason how I got my free PSP) Before Madden, and before NCAA Football, there was College Game Breaker and Gameday remember these titles? Anyways, the PS2 was a failure for Sony's Software Studios, and a sucess for a company like EA. Only Bravo was a real hit on the PS2. Compare the overall sucess to PSX and you've got almost half the total revenue. Sony's aiming to revamp their software, and alot still remains to be seen in this area. The PSP lacks in this area btw, Software when compared to the favored Nintendo DS, And hands down the PSP is a more powerful device but not everything is in that department as you can currently see.

I always see sites or people say that xbox has sold millions, but ps3 has only sold 600k...like they are comparing the sales how it stands now. Anyone know of a site that tracked sales per months released? How many units had the 360 sold at release day, 1 month release, 3 months, etc ... compared to the wii and ps3 at those same timeframes?

The reason why the PS3 is so expensive is because it is expensive to make. It cost Sony $900 to make each console so really they lose $300 everythime one is sold. They want to make money in games, so they will make games. If you don't believe me look it up.
Based on what SONY says it cost 900 hundred dollars but I personaly think Sony is a bunch of lieing JAGOFFS.

Wrong, Sony is playing for the DVD market. They figure the $300 will be worth it if they can make Blu-Ray the dominant format.

Exactly. I'm going to be picking up a PS3 later this month, and pick up T2 Judgement Day and a few others. I played CoD3, and it could use a mouse and keyboard. Madden 07 is amazing.

I still love how the new uncrackable secuirty on HD-DVD and Blueray has already been cracked.

I'm sure they will be hoping for this to. But if they wanted to worry just about the DVD market they would of made it just a Blue-ray player and nothing else, so they have to plan to make some games.

not exactly, cause people aren't just going to rush out and buy a new blueray, to replace their dvd players, for no reason, particularly when most their movies are still DVD.
I think Sony is very invested in blueray, moreso than perhaps even the PS3. (don't know what their development costs have been, but I know it's lots).
But with a new console, they already have hardware to sell. You can ensure that every one of those people who buy a PS3 are going to be pulling for blueray, whereas those that don't won't really care either way if it is blueray or hd-dvd.
ANd I think the market (read: future movies choosing to be made in blueray or HD) will react not to which is selling more players, but by which actual disk sells quicker. I think Sony is hoping that an early surge in actual Blueray players will result in an early surge in people buying the few blueray movies. The more that are bought, the more future movies that will pick that format, and the snowball grows.

Still, the 600 pricetag is too much to me, considering they didn't get enough games at release. Just 1 more headline game and I would say people would be buying those things out still, but with only 1 big ticket game, it's a 600 DVD player for a few months.

agreed with the person asking what Xbox selling rates were for their release though. Cause comparing a 1 year head start isn't even close to fair. Additionally, saying the Wii is doing better than the PS3 isn't quite fair, cause up till this week, 100% of the available ps3's have sold and 100% of the Wii's have sold. Just cause it looks like 2.5x more Wii's have shipped thus far, that's the only reason 2.5x more have sold.
Give both systems 2 months and I bet that the PS3 numbers will start overtaking the Wii, particularly once better PS3 titles start to look really good next to Zelda and Wii Sports.
