Dell's Stupidity Regarding SB Audigy MB

OK. So here's the issue. My 9400 has the Creative SB Audigy ADVANCED MB addon to it. The problem is, I reinstalled Windows, and in trying to activate the software, it keeps telling me that the software has been activated by a different user and cannot be activated by me (I don't know why, its the first time I've tried it).

In telling Dell about this issue, they keep running me in circles telling me that I need to talk to another department (usually the department I was just transferred from because they didn't know what was going on).

Each time I'm transferred, I have to explain each time what my issue is and what I need (essentially a new CD with a new license key, because this one isn't going to work). Dell keeps telling me that they don't even know WHAT THE CREATIVE LABS SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY ADVANCED MB EVEN IS!!!. So yeah. Wow, is what I say.

Does anyone perhaps know what the Dell part number is for the CD? So perhaps I can get Dell to send me a new one if they know what the hell it is I am talking about?

Ok, check it out. You don't have a sound blaster card, you have sound blaster software with sigma tel components. Having both sets of drivers (as installed by dell) will cause an exception. Get rid of the audigy software completely. download the sigmatel drivers http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=162467

That fixed me.

Tony, contact Creative directly. Dell has nothing to do with the Audigy software, beyond selling it.

You have to install the software in the correct order in order to get it to work properly. It is very picky, but its easy to fix. Send me a pm and I can walk you though if you have any installation issues. As far as the part number for the CD, do not worry about that you just need the media for the install as long as you have your own audigy hd installation cd key you should be ok.

Also more information on exactly what the problem is would be helpful. I know when you go to activate the product a second time or more it asks you why you are doing it, and you should be selecting system crash or reinstall etc.

Also activation issues are through creative labs not Dell so on the screen when you go to re-activate the product when it fails there should be a link to contact them directly. As long as your key is valid (regardless if it is yours) You should get by with hard drive crash and reinstallation as the reason for the re-activation.

This is only partly correct. If you are getting and exception error then you would have to re-install both softwares. And the Sigmatel drivers must be installed first as the creative software uses them to perform the installation properly. This is by far not an inherent problem with the drivers or anything so stating " Having both sets of drivers (as installed by dell) will cause an exception. " is not correct. If that were the case we would have mad floods of posts, I would have the problem and two of my friends with duplicate machines also would have the problem, and we do not.

I have done a clean install of my machine and never had problems with the drivers working side by side. I can say there is a noticable cleaner sound with them installed and the added audio driver options unlocked with the CL drivers is a nice feature. BUT they are known to be quirky with the installation and reinstallation.

If you are getting errors there is probably an issue with the driver version you may have. (Sigmatel) =)

I'm using the most current of all drivers, by the way...

The error I'm getting has NOTHING to do with the installer itself, or any error my system is throwing back at me.

The problem I'm having stems from the license key itself. Apparently, it was already "Activated" by another user (under someone else's name, not mine) and cannot be activated by me.

This is why I'm trying to get Dell to send me a new copy. I'm gonna try Creative, but I'm not expecting anything from them.

When you put in the Activation Key did you put in CTO did you use the letter O or the number Zero. I had problems with it as well. If you used Zero try the letter O if you used the letter O try Zero. I just don't remember but I beleive it was the letter O

Yeah, the activation key was right, and on mine, it is a 0, not an O. I tried it once with the O and it gave me an invalid key error, so that wasn't it.

Bump

So does ANYONE know what the Dell P/N is for this thing? Or what I need to do to get Dell to give me another CD (with activation code)? Creative said to go through Dell, by the way.

Dude... The key has already apparently been used... I can't do anything with the software at all because the key has been activated by someone else apparently.
