check this out new SYSTEM!!!! - Page 2

Well, the m9750 is an easier decision for me because I guarantee you with a core 2 duo + 2x7950gtx's, I simply couldn't afford it. Still, I'd be mightily tempted to attempt to afford it. My only hesitation would be in the fact that it's (sure to be) so expensive, and such a large investment, all on the tail end of directx9 gaming with no mention of if the computer will ever have an upgrade option to a directx10 card. One would hope that a "8800 go" card would be offered for such an expensive laptop, but you can never be sure. If it wasn't ever offered, I'd be forever kicking myself in the head once Crysis, etc.. came out which isn't too far off.

I'm very happy with my m9700, but I'll just have to accept the fact that it's not the fastest thing on the block in the AW camp anymore. I'll save my pennies for another year or so and see what sorts of DX10 lappies AW has at that time.

For anyone who hasn't bought a m9700 yet though, the m9750 is a no brainer if you can afford it. Beautiful configuration and laptop!

So sad, listening to all of us m9700 owners trying to justify our poor m9700's... It's like a horse owner trying to defend his prize horse who just broke a leg.

You are so right. But, uhhmmm, yeah...no 8800GTX card...that's a good reason not to envy the upgrade (thanks for that one). On a more serious note ... while many of us would like the new features of the m9750, I don't see anyone seriously complaining - probably because the m9700s are still pretty nice machines

m9700 = still bad ass

Yeah, as far as laptops go, the m9700 is still right up there in terms of performance, and depending on the price of the 9750 with the dual core, dual 7950gtx's, and the blu ray etc, it might still be on top in terms of value.

I doubt seriously I'll move to the 9750, but it's so typical for the way my purchases go. Back when I ordered my 9700 I almost decided to hold off for a dual core processor, and I told my contact at AW I wanted black like the old Sentia that came completely painted in the rubberized grip paint.

To be honest, I'm more tempted by the black case than the hardware, though that'll probably change once someone gets one and posts their benchmarks...

As for DX10 mobile cards, I doubt AW would put all this money into a new model if it wouldn't support them, if they're coming...

Note that the desktop 7950 is a dual gpu card, but the mobile 7950 is just a clocked up 7900gtx, so it's possible mobile cards will no longer offer all the desktop versions do... I still haven't heard anything about DX10 mobile cards...

Ok, I did some googling and found some links...

Read here for info on Nvidia's upcoming DX10 cards for notebooks which sounds like a definite thing. However, if this article is correct, it sounds like Nvidia will only be supporting DX10 cards for Centrino Pro 800mhz fsb notebooks which the m9750 is not.

Here's another blurb on centrino pro.

So, my initial suspicion based on that info would be to assume that the m9750 will not be upgradeable to DX10 gpu's from Nvidia without some sort of complete motherboard replacement utilizing the 800mhz fsb & socket p boards which are supposedly due out Q2 of 2007. Therefore, I'd again be very careful shelling out wads of cash for a monster gaming notebook on the dying era of DX9 gaming considering that it doesn't appear too auspicious that the m9750 will see a DX10 card.

Again though, that's all conjecture, based on whatever info I've been able to scrounge this a.m.

Sadly, this also means that m9700 owners probably have no hope of a Nvidia based DX10 card upgrade.

I'm more of a value purist, so after some thought, if I had it to do all over again and the above information were correct, I'd probably still go with the m9700 unless the price differential were nominal (and I doubt it will be...). ("My horses' leg ain't broke, honest!!" ) I'd save the extra 2 grand for a real DX10 notebook around Christmas of next year which should be the sweet spot for buying one I would think.

Thanks for the info Groove...

I agree with you. When I bought the m9700 I looked at my history, and I've never upgraded a laptop in terms of processor or vid cards though I could have. I made up my mind when I ordered the m9700 that it would be my laptop for three or four years regardless of what comes out in the near future, but it's still difficult when something new comes out.

I'm curious to see real world comparisons though. I'm surprised they got 7950 cards to work in this platform, so I want to see if the cooling is beefed up.

And I can always get the m9700 painted matte black and pretend...

My first priority will be a new desktop and new monitor anyway, so this really isn't something for me to consider seriously.

Wow the 9750 is a beast and I like that black...but I still think you guys/girls with m9700 still have one of the best laptops on the market performance, looks, and durability wise...so hold your head up high.

the reason why the new 5790 has only 256mb of ram for the x1900 is due to the fact that mxmIII only supports gpu's up to 256mb of ram unfortunately =(

, I'm contemplating selling my 5760 haha in order to buy a new m9750 =P

i could careless about DX10 since I only play CSS =D @ the moment, but the kudos of having blu ray in a laptop and sli + c2d is exactly what i want

also, my next gripe would be...to make everything perfect on the m9750 would be to have duel link dvi, so i can hook up a nice or pair of nice dell 30" lcd's =D

m9750, order being placed tomarrow at noon. I hope I am the first!
AW is claiming first in this catagory, anyone have experience with these?

Alienware is claiming first to having dual core intel with SLI laptop. Up until now you weren't able to get a laptop with sli that had an intel chip in it. Which does make Alienware the first to offer such a machine. They couldn't have picked a better platform than what Arima has designed either.

I'd love to see what kinda temps the 7950gtx's put out. Actually second thought I don't want to know. The fan in the back may just peel the paint off your walls if placed too close.

Can you not configure it until tommorrow?

If we can order by tommorrow, my m5750 is probably going up for sale tonight

In the keynote clip on the link given in teh first post of this thread, Alienware's CEO says about the m9750: "We'll be shipping this notebook within the next couple of months." Do they usually take configured orders that far in advance of shipment? Thanks.

For what it's worth (probably not much), I talked to an AW phone sales rep this morning. they aren't expecting to take orders on the new system for a month or more.
