Alienware refusing to renew my warranty--m5700

I called today to extend my 1 year warranty for 2 more years, and I was told that they will not extend my warrany. The company that makes the parts for my laptop has gone "awol". So basically I will have a $2,000 paperweight if it ever breaks.

Anyone else have this problem? I never wanted to believe any of the negative things I read about AW, but now I know what people are talking about. The lady on the phone told me "we cannot support the laptop we sold you"

I even have an email stating that AW sends out an email 1 month before your warrany expires with an offer to extend it. Thats why I only bought the 1 year. Had I known this could happen I would have coughed up the money for a 3 year right off the bat.

thats the risk you take when you buy something thinking you can get an extension later... sorry to say it man but this would have been easily avoided. AW cant control the suppliers and if the company that made some of the parts has gone then thats how it is. you chose to take that risk when you purchased with a 1 year warranty, policies can change and do change, and they cant offer a warranty that would be impossible for them to honour.

I understand your point..I have definitly learned my lesson. Its just frustrating they they used the offer to extend as a selling point with me over the phone/email, and are now denying it.

They can't fix what they can't get parts for. So, I understand them not offering an extension. Sorry to hear about that.

If you have the extension offer in words you can force them to extend it LEGALLY, while they would not be able to fix it, they would be forced to replace it w/ a comparable model

That's only if he has it in writing...

If you still have the email and it doesn't include a disclaimer that the offer is subject to change, you may have a claim to demand an extended warranty. Their policy for a while has been to offer extensions prior to warranties expiring, but to my recollection they didn't guarantee that anywhere.

It's likely you won't have an issue with the 5700, it's a very solid platform. You shouldn't have any problems getting parts or repairs for it, you just won't be able to do so through Alienware apparently.

I PM'd AW-Steve and he's gonna try and help me out. -Awesome

I havent had any problems thus far with my m5700. It has been 100% stable for 10 months now...long hours of WOW, Oblivion etc, but I would like that extra comfort knowing that I have warranty for 3 years. We'll see what happens.

No offense, but if you knew you wanted three years on your warranty, why didn't you get that in the first place?

A lot of people put off extending the warranty to keep the upfront costs down.

exactly----^

I didnt want to have to drop an extra 249$ when i could delay it till later. $2100 was already alot to spend for a college student

That's why I said "no offense". I *think* it is more expensive to upgrade later, though.

I just like to lock stuff like that is when I buy, just to avoid this kind of situation.

Good luck with your issue.
