so after formatting+swapping components, the problem does'nt go away?
Does the diag specifically tell you that there's something wrong with the motherboard?

haha yeah that's where I'm at also
Thx for your help though

Okay, in making a post in another thread in this forum regarding a problem a little like yours, I just had a couple of (hopefully good) ideas.

I'll probably try formatting and then call up dell, even though this one never had any warranty
Just in case anyone is interested in this weird situation, there's another oddity I just discovered (don't know why I didn't know about this before).
I get an annoying "pop" on the right side of the headphones whenever something's playing. (This doesn't happen when nothing's playing)
This laptop just can't stop pissing me off

Check your BIOS settings, and see if you can play with things there. Also you can try the "uninstall"/"reinstall" method I mentioned before--for the NIC and/or the video card. Hopefully the OS would pick different IRQs than before.

Also, I believe that there's a way to semi-manually force irq selections in the OS--I'll have to look it up again.

EDIT: You might be able to do the same thing by updating to the latest and greatest sound drivers--I presume you're using the onboard AC97 sound? You should be able to updated drivers for this (usually from Dell's downloads section).

As I was going through the posts one more time, I noticed the "edit" part which I did not before.
I uninstalled current audio driver and reinstalled. And my problem's solved!
Thank you very much
