Big Problem with Inspiron 8600

Hi there,

I have a big issue with my girlfriend's Inspiron 8600 and I hope someone can help. Basically, the screen suddenly stopped working. It was grey with the occasional vertical streak of a darker grey. The VGA output of the notebook worked fine.

So I replaced the entire screen (going from WXGA to WSXGA into the bargain) thinking that it was a screen issue.

The new screen does much the same thing, only it varies between purple and turquoise.

Has any one seen this issue before? I can only assume now that the fault lies with one of the following:

1. Cable from the graphics card to the input on the screen.
2. Graphics card's digital output has died (although as I said the VGA output is fine)

If any one has seen a similar fault and can explain what might be wrong, please post here.

I suggest that you are on the money. Either a problem with video card or the connection or even the connection on the motherboard itself. Only way to really find out is to swap out some of these components until you find the culprit... you may have to send it to Dell for a service if you don't have these available.
