Im hoping the new models will have that little screen on the lid that works with vista because i thought that was pretty neat.

Would agree, however in my opinion, they are just asking to get a nice crack in them off the bat. Also I think that would add quite a bit on to the price tag...which is probably more than it would be worth, at least in my opinion

Does anyone expect Dell to make minor changes to their existing lines such as the M1710 with the change to the Vista operating system later this month?

I would say probably not. Sadly I don't think that will result in a model change.

They will introduce new models this year, before june according to some sources.

Some things are for sure:

- Santa Rosa (800 FSB Merom, DDR2-800, 802.11n and a few other goodies).

- Newer graphic chips based on G80 and R600. Even lower end chips will be fairly powerful, as Windows Vista requieres a decent chip to run Aero.

They might introduce a new docking station with PCI Express architecture. If they add eSATA and such, it will probably be trough there.

Hopefuly... and I'm crossing my fingers on this, led backlights...

is it possible that dell will preload vista on its old but vista-capable models after january 30?

I would think most of the models will give you the option for a short time of preloading either Vista or XP.
