I'm waiting to ditch my old laptop for a new laptop screen with LED-backlit... Anybody know which major laptop brands have backlit-LED screens?

It looks like hp and Apple are the brands most likely to use LED backlights for their laptops in the near future.

Know any benefits of LED-backlit LCD vs traditional LCDs?

i assume less light leakage...perhaps more sharp/focused appearance when you're working in the dark. (just guesses, dont take my word for it)

LED's offer more color options but they could also potentially draw more power than whats tried and true. Thats a bad thing considering that most people buy laptops for their mobility and have battery life as a main priority.

it's also not an option in desktop monitors so the only reason you'd ever see it in portable devices first is because of power efficiency- which i guess it doesn't have. now is this the same technology as OLED's, which are actually making its way into the market through smaller portables (phones, mp3 player screens...)?

Sony has them in atleast TX and SZ premium models, been there for ages. Benefits are vast:

- Thinner case
- More uniform backlight
- Better contrast
- Better power consumption, about 50%, which is pretty big when displays takes about 33% of the overall power consumption.

Not so sure about the TX series but i've seen first hand on the SZ series the true glory of LED back-lighting. Although I have to say that utilizing a completely thin case kills the overall brightness of the display.
