processor upgrade on the 5720

Thread Starter
I got a 5720 with a Pentium M2.0

This might be a completely stupid question, but would it be possible to upgrade to a core due or any other kind of dual-core processor???

Thanks

It is only possible by also replacing the motherboard as well. Not sure if other components need upgrading. You would be better off selling the 5720 and using the money to buy a notebook that already has Core 2 Duo.

He's right, but it's a shame really since upgrading the CPU would make the 5720 cutting edge again. If it could be done for $500 it would be worth the money but finding mobile parts is next to impossible since they are generally available to OEM only.

If anyone knows where to find parts I would be interested to learn also.

The chipset built into the 5720 is not capable of driving an Intel Core processor adequately. Even if there were no mechanical constraints, it's just not possible to upgrade the CPU beyond the Pentium M 780 (2.33 GHz). Even replacing the motherboard is not a recommended option in terms of economy. Selling a 5720 and buying a new notebook will be the way to go, and definitely the way without any hassle.
