M2010 with Go8800GTX

Thread Starter
So, after reading what people have been saying about the 8800GTX fitting into an M1710, I have another theory. I think Dell is going to be putting the Go8800GTX in the M2010.

Of course, I'm probably totally wrong about this, but here's why I think it may happen:

M1710 isn't capable of housing this card.

M1710 can't handle the necessary power to run this card.

M1710 doesn't have adequate cooling options for this card.

Besides these reasons, I also have another idea about why it could be going into the M2010.

I always get onto Costco.com to check out what they're selling from Dell in the laptop market. Sometimes they will stop selling a particular "Pre-configured" laptop from Dell because they're changing something about it, for example, new graphics card option. Just the other day, I noticed that they stopped selling the M2010 on Costco's website. The only reason they would do this is if Dell was changing up the config, meaning it's possible that Dell said, "don't sell any more M2010s because we're about to upgrade it with the Go8800 to coincide with the Vista release later this month."

Again, this is just a theory, but why would Costco stop offering the M2010 on their website all of the sudden? They've always had it since it came out, and so I think it's a little strange that Costco has suddenly taken it down right before the Vista release.

Any ideas, comments, flames?

hum you could be right, but the price is gonna be way through the roof. It won't be worth it.

The m2010 already wasnt worth it.

As for the 8800gtx in the m2010, it would certainly set the m2010 far ahead of everything else, and i would have much more respect for that PC. The m2010, being the "showstopper" that its labeled should have had the absolute best GPU available, and it should have been exclusive to the m2010. An 8800gtx in the m2010 would make it much more appealing, although still would be much more money than id be willing to spend.

As for your theory, im sure there is more than one reason why Costco would stop carrying it, i dont know any of them, but if they are putting an 8800gtx in it, at least we will all have something else to drool over, but i still think its too soon to see a G80 in Go form.

I think it's a long shot to expect the 8800 series in our laptops any time soon, as an article on here said already, it's probably not going to happen until Q3 of this year. I don't know, but I think desktops are going to take a large step ahead of laptops this year.

Although I think a 8800GS is possible but with seriously cut down features and horsepower to solve any heat or power issues incoming but then you havea card that could potentially be worse than the 7950 or x1900.

When the m2010 comes out with a dx10card, blu-ray, faster processor, higher resolution monitor then I'm gonna get it right away. Of course I'll have to sell my house to afford it but it'll be worth it. mmm 21" high def. porn...

we have not seen a refresh or an update to this White Elephant that dell released. I personally think it was under powered and premature in its release. Don't expect to see anything for this until atleast maybe santa rosa if anything at all. with dell aquiring Alienware there is no need for this. I think dell is just going to try to sell off its existing stock and let it fade into the night.

Mmmm Chasey Lain and Jenna Jameson in 21" high def glory..... where's my lube..

J33z, keep the horning to yourself, not like any girls are really browsing that would like to see this.

I agree that dell released this system prematurely. Exactly like the i9200. But the 9200 was re-released as the 9300 a few months later (or was it days) and had completely different base components.

and after Alexander's comments, I think it is time to go hump the wife.... I have a 37" 1080p hooked via dock to my 1710... any parts on that would be monsterous.... You know like they always say, bigger is not necessarily better. It's how you use it that counts... muahahahhahahaha!!!

dammit now I am going to have to try that, then hump the wife...

Tone it down a bit Alexander, had to delete that last one. Keep it clean (or at least use some subtlety/ innuendo, jeeez).

why would they go and put an nvidia into a laptop that has previously been loaded with radeon x1800. i think they would put in the x1900xt or something similar to radeon.

I would think the 8800 would be in the 1730 first before it hits the m2010. Otherwise it'd make no sense to consider the 1730 as Dell's gaming flagship when the multimedia-first m2010's successor overpowers it. In an ideal world where Nvidia gets its act straight and actually produces the right cards in time and in quantity, you'd see the 8800 on the 1730 and the weaker 8700 on the m2010's successor.
