The NBF is a lot less fascist than the NBR. Have fun trying to post words or topics that are above a "G rating."

Here's how anal and fascist they are:

I once posted "QFT" in response to a good post. The mod thought the "F" in "QFT" meant something bad, so he edited my post, lowered my rep and wrote me up for an infraction.

Yeah, awesome moderators there, huh?

Check out some(2) of my threads in their suggestion forum, asking for clarification of their rules (you know so i can post without getting edited for minor things). Both threads were locked and my orignal questions were never answered.

Enjoy your time there, it'll be short.

(I may have been a bit too harsh on the NBR, it has its niche, it's very noob friendly and very politically correct if you like that sort of thing)

and just so my original comment wasn't lost

What's the deal with the PC Torque banner in the Sager section? And what about the forum that is dominated by PC Torque threads?

Just asking.

PC Torque is a paying sponsor of Notebook Forums, and so they get a banner in the ad section because they paid for it. And although they don't anymore, the folks who own NBF used to own PC Torque, and so there's a good relationship with that reseller on the forums.

I don't understand what's not to get with all this. Dell told NBF Bal was doing something they didn't like and NBF complied with Dell's wishes to remain in their good graces. Also, No Resellers has been a policy at similar forums for a long time. [H]ard|OCP is just one such site off the top of my head. What resellers are allowed on their forums are paying sponsors and they post in the Deals section, not the FS/T section.

I'm personally sorry if anybody leaves over this, hate to see some good members leave (especially WackyT, you've been quite helpful around here). But if you want to get pissed off at somebody, get pissed off at Dell.

Haha! Went out there to see for myself. Funny stuff! Especially the fact that almost everyone over there thought you were serious.

I think we need to ban all debatable topics here. Topics on religion, race, sex, AMD vs Intel, MS vs Apple, ATI vs nvidia, and other things of such nature should not be allowed. These topics might offend people who have a strong tie to one side, and we don't want that here at the notebookreview. Anything offensive needs to be removed.

I also propose that we stop allowing people to link to other websites. Who knows what bad words or images are on those websites when the person decides to view it and surf around.

Avatars should be removed. They have a potential to offend people. I've gotten my rep lowered because of it, so I will replace mine for the time being.

Anyone else that has ideas on what other things we need to ban from this website should post them here.

Wow, seriously? If anything, I am told that I leave too much open for discussion when I should just make a statement and let that be the end of it. I can be too diplomatic, at times.

In order to keep a large site running, there is an entire network of tireless volunteers that make judgement calls and go back and forth with other volunteers every single day. We can't (and won't) post information on the public board about those calls and who does what and when. That makes no sense and would take way too much time to maintain.

The issue of Bal versus regular resellers are two different things. Please understand that.

I keep hearing, "Bal was just trying to make a living... etc."

Well, so are we, but we are the bad guys for doing it.

NBF is a community, as the General Populace we are always going to be stretching, bending and at times breaking rules. As the people who survive by this site, Craig, Laura, Luke and others make the call, to let those who do blurr the line, to ban them or warn them. In this instance people were making profit through "other" than legal methods, so in order to protect themselves they were warned and banned. (Imagine mother bear protecting lil NBF cub)

GP will always find ways through and around problems and the Mods will allow it until it threatens their livelyhood. No harm no foul. It’s an ongoing struggle for balance. Yes Bal' and others were great assets but also they were endangering a place we all call home. No one is a bad guy, not even Dell, it's just that certain things that were once ok are not, end of story, quite crying cause someone pissed in your corn flakes. Think, if Coke a Cola still put cocaine in their soft drinks then ok, but they were doing something bad and were "advised" to stop, same with anything back in the 60' - 80's environmentally, companies were running their factories with no regulations, cause their was no problem. Then the ramifications of their actions were taking effect on the environment (NBF is the world and the resellers are the factories) No one was at fault, the factories were doing things legally until told otherwise, and told to stop. When they didn’t stop that’s when problems started. You don’t just shrug when someone ignores the warnings to stop, you have to take action. If the Mods let people do as they please NBF wouldn’t be the great place it is today. Even if people call it a “Dictator NBF” there is always going to be an underground of GP looking for ways to get around the rules. Not saying its good or bad, it just keeps everyone on their toes.

Just my 0.02 cents

Because we're so concerned about Dell's TOS. As soon as they release a product into the public, it's ours to dispose of it as we will. Or should I open a computer company and claim that "if you sell my RAM to someone else for less than 5x what I sell it for I automatically own your wife and your favorite car."?

There will be a reseller section coming soon where resellers will be free to post deals for NBFers. We believe very much in making sure that members here get the best deals possible. We have lots of great things planned. We just want to make sure that it's clear when it's someone getting rid of their old stuff versus a company selling their products.

I know that the natural tendency is to think that we are somehow trying to wrong everyone. Trust me when I say that it's complicated and there is never a perfect solution.

Thanks for understanding, all.
So in one post you say that resellers do not exist, the next you say that they exist and you are trying to obtain their services for the better of the community.

If Bal was doing something wrong, hey, I have no beef with you all doing what you had to to keep this forum and community alive, but what's with the stories?

The guy below me said "Ignore the post above" when I am trying to make an extremely valid point. I'm not going to try to justify your, or Bal's actions in any way but ..... there has to be some underlying cause of this else you wouldn't go back on yourself so often.

Perhaps it is a position you are not used to being and and do not choose your words wisely? I'm not sure but something does not add up.

Bal was acquiring the systems is a way not congruent with their TOS. His supplier at Dell is NOT authorized to get him the systems at that price, and then he is not suppsed to resell them.

It's really very simple.

The ACTUAL resellers are companies who resell Asus, Acer, Sager, Apple, HP, etc. THOSE resellers will be welcome here.

Does that make sense?

well 0.02 dollars * 500000 = 10000 dollars

0.02 cents * 500000 = 10000 cents = 100 dollars
