Did my battery take a crap on me?

Thread Starter
My Inspiron 6000d which Ive had for a yr and half now still has its original battery which is the lower of the two at 53kwh, Well its always lasted me about 1.5 hrs on a full charge. But yesterday I was in the livingroom using battery power and about 45mins into it the battery gauge on the taskbar showed 1/2 life which is normal but then all of a sudden the low battery warning pops up and it instantly goes into hibernating mode and shuts down. I then go get the wall charger and plug it and and the charge indicator on the laptop glows green as normal ( the one next to the system on indicator light) but after a few seconds it double flashes orange then a green flash and then double orange.....On the task bar it still said it as charging so I let it charge to 100% but it still flashed green and double orange so I unplug it and see it it will run on battery but when I do this the battery icon on the task bar says that its 100% but time remaining is only like 45 mins. Before I look for a new battery I want to make sure its the battery thats the culprit. Also whats the largest battery for these? 80Kwh Since I now use my wireless and my bluetooth I would like to get more time out of a battery. Thanks

Your battery is toast I'm afraid. Mind you there's no SET life-span for a battery since there's so many factors that can affect how long the battery will run and how long it'll hold a substantial charge.

yeah... same thing pretty much happened to me except it happened overnight and I woke up to the flashing orange lights.

My battery is down to 70% of original power (its about 1 year old). It held up the first 8 month very nicely (battery wear only 8%) but is now loosing around 2-3 percent per week.
And damn it - it doesn't qualify for Dell battery replacement calls. I want a fire up battery so badly

Well...you could completly discharge it then recharge it, batteries normally will always have a charge (even if it isn't enough to power up your laptop) and I have heard of many instances where people will completly discharge the battery (useing tools) and recharge it and get performance close to when they first bought it...never tried it though since I have two 9-cells for my M1210 and switch between them constantly..haven't seen a drop yet.
