UT2004 FIX for Inspiron 8600/XPS keyboard beeps/lag issue! - Page 2

Yup disabled the APOINT and i still get the lag in mouse/keyboard movement. Tried disabling Fast initialization as well reinstalling mouse drivers. Still having problems.

I also switched from to older Omega drivers (was using 4.2) and problem still there.

I checked the UT forums and it seems its not just inspiron related but lots of other people are having issues with lag.

I get no lag on my Desktop with an Nvidia card though...

Oh well, atleast Far Cry is working good.

Ahhh. That's a different issue I think. The folks on the Atari forum are complaining about mouse lag (not keyboard lag), - as if their mice stop working for a second. My issue was keyboard ONLY and is definitely fixed with the 'Apoint' removal. Sorry to hear you have the mouse bug. I hadn't heard of any notebook users experiencing it until now. I guess that bug is up to Atari to fix. Boo! Keep us posted...

The people in the Atari forums suggested turning off speech recognition and pre-caching models and it actually worked. Everything is running fine now.

Yep that's the now infamouse mouse lag issue, which some people (including you!) have fixed with turning off speech recognition and pre-caching models. The keyboard issue on the Inpsiron 8600/XPS is a different problem altogether, and is resolved by the Apoint fix. If you have any keyboard issues, you know what to do. Thankfully, I've never had the mouse lag issue!

Same here. I just turned off the speech recognition. I didn't even need to turn off the apoint thing, for I had disabled the touchpad in the driver anyway. Now both the keyboard input lag and mouse lag are gone for good.

Well I have to say it didn't fix my problems.
I disabled Apoint and the kind of lag is still there.
First I have to clarify. My lag is that when I walk forward in FarCry fro example suddenly the Character doesn't move forward anymore and I have to take the finger off the key and put it back on then he moves again.
Is that the lag you mean?
Well the fix doesn't work with me then

Retail?

He everyone,

I know this keyboard/apoint issue was in the demo version of UT2004, but can anyone confirm or deny whether or not the problem exists in the retail version of UT2004? I hope to get it this summer but as of right now have the touchpad thing set to "as needed" because I do like having the scrolling on the side of the touchpad for when I go all mobile. Just curious!

What's scolling on the side of the touchpad?

In the ALPS driver settings you can set the right side and the bottom to be their respective scrolling actions (like the wheel on the mouse).

Nifty.

how do you access the ALPS driver settings?

If you still have Apoint running, the easiest thing to do is double click on the touchpad icon in the system tray (bottom right, by the clock). If that's not there go to Start->Control Pannel->Mouse. Click on the "Gestures" tab and check the "Use Scroll Function" box. Viola! You can even click on the "settings" button to adjust how wide you want the sides to be.

Hope this helps!
