Autodarken LCD Program

Hey guys, Im looking for a program that will auto darken the screen when running on battery. My friends mac as this. As he's using the laptop if he stops for 1 minute or wahtever the screen will autodarken to its lowest setting.

Any ideas? TIA

good question. I'd love to have a program to do this

he doesn't mean the maximum brightness gets pushed lower on battery. he means the screen will fade off with inactivity and light back to full battery brightness when a button is pushed- like on a cell phone or mp3 player.

anyway, i've seen macbooks do this also, and it's efficient and looks nice when it glows back up. i think it may be built into the os.

I fully understood what he was saying and there was no reason to write what you did. All I said was that I would like to possess a program that solved his problem.

Guys, stop. If you want to squabble like this, PM each other. If seen by mods, the name-calling and flaming could earn you some time away from NBF.

Dont most laptops do that?
Dell quickset does that for my Dell.

The best I could say is just turn off your monitor after 1 min, although u can't see what you're doing.

let's keep it clean please and back to topic.

thanks!

*btw this is the only "verbal" warning, I'll be giving*

mine auto-adjusts the brightness level according to the ambient light

to the best of my knowledge, it's the only one out there with that feature. It also will darken slightly on battery power, but not as much as a mac (unless it's in a dark room, that is)

I was wondering... do you guys think it would be possible to run quickset on a non-dell?

Im really surprised no ones got a program to mimic this function.

I know a lot of machines will "remember" your previously-set brightness on both AC and battery, and switch accordingly...

Every laptop I've had that ability.
Here is where it's configure in dell quickset.

i haven't checked this thread since my last post (erased, because using 'liar' in a true context is against the rules...) and a lot of people still don't understand what lcd feature you specified (hence my first post which got me into trouble for some reason). anyway so to answer your question, i'd say the answer is likely no, the dimming feature is natively mac and the best you can do is get auto brightness detection/adjustment which isn't at all the same.

edit: i am also beginning to wonder if screen brightness is software controlled because i know that without remapping keys my brightness controls work in non-windows os (i don't mean linux) and it's hard to test but like volume it doesn't bring your computer out of idle mode when adjusted. this would mean that it is written into the hardware bios or something else.

I dont understand what you are saying here....

Generally that kind of feature is hardware controlled since software would have to be able to adjust the brightness for all the models, makes, brands of notebooks or lcd screens it would be an awful lot of work for who ever made the software when you could use the auto off feature most windows notebooks have built in. Probably no market for it vs the time invested on working on said software.

I'll do some searching to see if I can locate a program to do this

The auto-adjusot feature on mine is hardware-controlled. it will even auto-adjust in BIOS

Well I hope something comes out of this. I mean in the end I dont know how much battery life it will add, but I only need for brightness for navigating pages and such, reading and typing is fine and dimmest setting.

And themessenger500 you got it on the head for what I want. hopefully everyone else get its too.
