M70 fe5 strange behaviour..comments? help?

Hi all,

My toshiba m70 fe5 did a strange thing two time the last 2 month....

I must say that for 100% it's working flawlessy, this laptop do everything I ask.

Now detail of the problems:

Laptop is plugged in wall, no battery in it (only the blue light that indicate that he is plugged)

I turn on the power, fan start (I think..) and the other small blue light that show it's turn on.

From there..nothing more, black screen (nothing at all, black as turn off, no backlight) and I see NO hard drive activity, no boot.

If i keep my finger on the power button, it turn off. I unplug it and reconect and then It boot normaly as usual. EVERYTHING is back to normal.

I'am sure it's not a overheat problem because I have a nice zalman laptop cooler (i will post review soon...)

Any ideas? should I be woried?

he only did this 2 times for the past 2 months, never did that in the past.

Any reason why you dont have a battery in it. The battery should remain in the laptop whether it is plugged in or not.

the battery is not in it because I mostly us it as a desktop and it stays connected. It's been like that from day one.

Is there something bad about this? I can try to leave the battery in it.....

Anymore opinion on this?

Do these problems occur when you have the battery in the laptop and hooked up to a/c???? Give it a try and see if these problems persist

sadly, it did it again this weekend..

Plugged in wall, battery in.

I turn it on, fans spin for a second and stop. Show no sign of activity on hard drive and screen stays black with power light turn on.

I must keep my finger on the power button to close it, I then turn it back on and it boot normaly

What I meant, was to try it purely on battery power and see if it still has the same symptoms.
If you can get it to boot, try booting into safemode, and see if there are any hardware conflicts in Device manager

it just happen again....batery was in but I was also connected.

after turning it off + disconect/reconnect it boot normaly. I browse the web right now and everything is fine.

can I diagnose something now or do I need to go in safe mode?

this is so weird...could it be software related?

Try just the battery (not plugged in). you could also check and see if you have a restore date that is older than the two month date when this started and go back to that date. Anything that you have added since that date would have to be re-installed.
You can also go to Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager and see if you have any conflicts (yellow or red exclamation points)

Thanks Saugen for the support but I'm pretty sure I found my solution...

I tested many startup with battery in/ out, plugged in/ not plugged, I could not diagnose anything.

I also decided to unistall the latest software I had installed....that curiously was matching around the time my problem started...

I still found it strange but it seems that the logitech "setpoint" software that come with my latest laser mouse was causing the problem...been a few weeks that I use my old optic mouse WITHOUT the setpoint software installed and I didin't notice ANY boot/ shutdown problems...
