9300 motherboard vs XPS Gen 2 (M170) motherboard.

First of all, I am converting my 9300 to an XPS and want working LEDs when I'm done.

I've been doing some fairly extensive research on this issue. I'm trying to figure out if, for instance, I were to get some of the LED connectors and solder them onto a 9300 motherboard, would I be able to connect the fan, speaker, and lid LEDs to them and make them work? I researched some threads and found no real answers, just a lot of people pondering.

I have found out that all of the spots for the connectors are there, just no connectors soldered to them. I just don't know if there are any resistors, capacitors, etc missing from the motherboard to make the LEDs work.

Has anyone else here researched this issue thoroughly? I doubt I can get schematics for both of the boards.

I remember that really long thread. I'm pretty sure it is missing resistors and capacitors.

The few people that have done it ended up buying the XPS mobo.

I can't seem to find any thread that says it does or doesn't work. I found a thread started by dellbert from back in 2005 and he tested the board for power there and got nothing. Only problem there is people didn't know about flashing to an XPS BIOS.

I might just pull mine apart tomorrow and test for power in mine.

If I remember correctly, it was Pugsly that finally figured out that the XPS mobo was needed.

Bah, I just looked at all the pictures I've collected. Looks like there are a lot of little resistor chips missing all around where the connectors would be located. Looks like I have to buy a XPS board. Too bad people think they are made of gold. I can't find one that goes for less than about $350-500 on eBay.

yeah $400'ish sounds about right.

Kind of hit-and-miss with inventory, but THIS place has them pop up alot.
