Dell XPS M1210 - Feedback,Pictures and Regrets? ANYONE??!?!

Hello.

I'm thinking of buying a Dell XPS M1210 with the following specs:

Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHZ
2 GB Ram
Go 7400
80 GB HDD

I was wondering if you guys could post pics of your M1210 set-ups and tell me what games you play on it. Not what games you can but you know opinions from those who actually have used one. I'd like to hear anything you have to say about the M1210 as its my first laptop after the Acer Ferrari 3400 which when I was 13 I overheating by leaving it on a carpet and the mobo got fried.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I have the 710M, not quite as powerful as the M1210.. However, I absolutely LOVE it!!

The keyboard takes a while getting used to.. but after that you won't want anything with a larger than 12.1-13.3" screen!

Now, I'm looking at the 1210 myself !! I almost bought one yesterday but then held off to try some other combinations/configurations...

Probably order one today!

Thanks for the reply. I wish more people who actually own an m1210 would reply?

My only regret is that I didn't wait for core 2 duo. But I got a sweet deal so I can't really complain.

I love mine. I leave it on my bed sometimes when I'm in a hurry and it hasn't overheated yet .

It's pretty tiny but powerful as shit. It's never given me any problems except for retardation on my own part...

I definitely don't want anything bigger after having this.

Well I'm pretty bored so I just took some pictures...ignore all the crap on the other side the room, it's not mine, I have a messy roommate . Sorry they aren't the greatest pictures, but I really just didn't feel like moving....so I didn't.

Do you play any games on it?

Nah, but I hear it's pretty good for basic gaming. I've done some video editing with no problem. I can have internet, photoshop, itunes, and aim and all my other little programs on, with no lag at all. It's a beasty. And it fits in my bag perfectly. If you want something really powerful, and don't mind having a 14 or 15 inch screen, then you probably won't like the 12 inch screen. But if you want something small AND powerful, this is probably it.

What screen brand do you have on your XPS?
How does the 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Battery fit in the laptop?
I've read some complaints regarding the 9-cell Battery being kind of loose. Is that true?

I doubt any of you would want to know this but before deciding to get an m1210 I was leaning towards a macbook. I had decided that I wouldn't need windows anymore but I just cant get myself to leave. I've been using it for to long and to be honest I don't have that many problems with it and my system hardly crashes.

I have the AUO screen. Sometimes I wish the colors were a little bit brighter, but it's great, and you can adjust the colors and brightness to your liking.

The battery wiggles a little, but I don't really find it annoying. It makes sense. It doesn't do anything if I don't actually wiggle it. I hold it by the battery sometimes. Heheh.

Edit: All my friends have Macbooks. They break and are sucky . Nah, not really, but people have problems with all kinds of computers. Props to you for stayin with the PC.

Thanks. This is the first time someone has actually said something good when I've told them that I'm sticking to windows. The rest of them all just say ... OS X is so much easier and I always look at them like O_o. What's not easy about windows?

I got rid of a M1710 with 7900gtx and pretty much loaded just to get my hands on an M1210. I thought I would regret it but, I haven't one bit. This thing smokes. I didn't move my 1710, m170, 9300 around much and just left it on my desk all the time. I got a laptop to be portable and get closer to the family in the livingroom as well as take it places with me. That just didn't happen. With two small children the bigger laptops just were to easy for them to grab etc. So, I sucked up my pride of having a laptop with the best gpu and decided to give the 1210 a try. I say, it is so much easier to keep away from the kids while sitting on the couch. I can pick it up with one hand and hold them back with the other, lol. But really, I thought The screen would be a problem. If it's pure black then yes it's not perfect but everything else is great. The colors are very vibrant and very pleasant. The viewing angles are not the greatest either but it's a 12" screen. It's not like your going to be watching it from 10 feet away. I say the screen is on par with the Sony s360 one I had a year or two ago. I was also worried about reading on it but, have found that I have an easier time reading on it than the high resolution of the 17"ers with 1900x1200. By the way I have the Samsung screen and it is my second one. All in all for my situation I wouldn't go back. I love this thing. i would recomend it to anyone.

I absolutely love my m1210. Was a big step for me moving over to a small portable laptop. But its a beast power wise and perfect size imo. Handles everything i throw at it. Havent gamed on it much as moved away from pc gaming a bit in the last year but any game i have installed on it just to see has been fine (HL2, BF2, Guildwars, WOW, COH, LOTRO). Oh and i cant wait to get vista installed on this either, my copy is literally in the post to me know so will have my uber cheap OEM version of Vista Home Premium by mid next week at the latest. It'll be dead sexy then! hehe

Couldnt recommend this notebook more.

Plays HalfLife2 as good or better then my desktop. Was hoping to get all the fixins including intergrated cam, broadband antenna, draft N wireless, free Vista upgrade, 7200 RPM Hard drive, and 9 cell battery. Well some of those can be had down the road and at the price I paid I couldn't pass it up. So no regrets on getting the m1210 itself just mainly what items it has on it.

I got the M1210 shortly after it came out with one of the ridiculous EPP coupons. Overall things have been great. My previous laptop was an Inspiron 8100, which, while it was a champ, never seemed that portable. Having a laptop I can carry around that also packs a punch is great.

Funny story: when I started grad school in the fall, they offered to buy my a laptop to use. Having basically just bought the M1210, I wondered if they could just refund me for that instead. Thanks to red tape, that wasn't possible. Not wanting to see the offer go to waste, I had them buy me a MacBook Pro (having always been curious about the mac platform). The Mac is stylish, and there are definitely nice features in OS X, but overall I prefer the Dell and Windows. Also, the macbook pro has a dead pixel, something that none of my dell LCD's have ever had.

I really like mine. I got it from he outlet for a good price. I got the basic specs and the camera screen. I use it in my pickup truck. I have the express broadband card. I wanted the internal one. Dell could not figure that out. Other than that, it is perfect for my 1996 Ford F150 XL with the long bed.

I'm a huge fan of my M1210. I previously had an M170, which I also enjoyed very much. The smaller size has been much more convenient for me though since I tend to be fairly mobile with it.

The only dissapointment would have to be the video camera on it. I haven't used many of them, but my wife has a MacBook Pro. Wow, the difference in quality between the Logitech camera on the M1210 and the Mac's video camera is hard to believe. The Logitech is so bad compared to the Apple that it doesn't even seem worth using in the rare cases that I do have the need.

In every other way I'm thrilled with the M1210. It's really an outstanding machine.
