Citrix on Mac

I would really like to get a Mac and after a hardware failure earlier today, I need to get something this weekend.

I'll use my computer for work some, we use the citrix metaframe presentation server, citrix offers an OS X version of that software and after talking woth our tech guys they feel the VPN shouldn't be an issue. The one thing there is uncertainty about is the apps on the citrix vpn client, will I need them to have Apple specific versions running on the server, or since it's all web based will it work fine with the current version?

If it's true VPN all the apps should run through the server so there should be no need for OS X versions of them.

Thanks for the help, I think I am going to pick one up tomorrow. Just out of curiosity does anyone know what apple's return policy is on notebooks, just in case I find out that I need to get bootcamp to connect to my work network.

If you pick one up stock you have 14 days. BTO's are non returnable.

And if you don't want to use Bootcamp you can try running Windows and your client through Parallels.

that, and u really have your choice of OSes with a Mac. OS X, windows, and Linux. so if for whatever reason OS X gives u static, u have options. why would it be a return issue if u need to use bootcamp?

It's not that I am resistant to using bootcamp or parallels, it's just the cost associated with it. I think the MBP is amazing, and for what I'll be using it for I think it's well worth the $2k price tag. But if I need to use parallels the price for a system I can use for work shoots up to around $2400 before tax, and while I can afford it, I just can't justify spending $2400 on a 15" notebook.

Is ordering from MacMall or any of the other online resellers a safe option, or is getting it straight from apple the only way to go? I am asking because for just a touch over $2k I can get the MBP I want with parallels or bootcamp and a copy of XP pro.

Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it.

macmall is safe, amazon is also a good option and they are typically a bit cheaper than the apple store. make sure you buy from an authorized reseller though...failure to do so will result in apple not honoring your warranty.

If the machine is new and in the box Apple will honour the one year warranty regardless of where it's purchased.

As far as where to buy...Apple charges tax and shipping on their site. Amazon charges neither and I don't know about MacMall but they're probably the same as Amazon.
