XFCE 4.4 Screenshot Tour -- Or Should I Call it Gnome?

Thread Starter
I just checked out the XFCE 4.4 Screenshot tour, and guess what the first thing that struck my attention was --

-- hello, am I looking at Gnome?

Sorry, but the point of XFCE is to be a lightweight WM... but from what I can see, it's becoming just another Gnome or KDE.

Anyone else notice that?

It does seem to bear a certain resemblance to Gnome in appearances. Of course that doesn't mean it is not much lighter weight though. Take e17 for example of a desktop that is lightweight and fancy at the same time.

To each their own.

seablade's right...some things are gnome-ish but its not gnome. thunar is lighter than nautilus, mousepad is lighter than gedit...etc..etc. Whereas an average gnome runs @ 200-ish mb of ram usage, xfce does that at just over 100mb. and then again..it all falls on what other software you'll be using..since FF will take another 70mb to 100mb to run, so will thunderbird, gaim another 20mb or so...and thats just getting started
