Asus V6 series equivalent?

Thread Starter
I've been using an Asus V6A (Pentium M 1.8Ghz) for over a year now and have had no problems- it's really the ideal size machine for me. With the impending release of Windows Vista, I thought it would be a good time to get a new Core 2 Duo model.

Just one problem- the V6 series has been discontinued! I'm very sad, as the only equivalent notebook from Asus is the expensive VX1 Lamborghini edition.

Does anyone know of a comparable notebook from any manufacturer? The specs I'm particularly interested in are:

15" SXGA+ display (I prefer this to the widescreen displays now more common)
Dedicated graphics (ATI or NVIDIA)
Core 2 Duo processor
5 lbs

All of Asus' new laptops seem to be veering towards the widescreen, 6+ lb specs. I feel like they've taken a step backwards in industrial design and innovation.

Thanks,
Francis

You could buy a V6J, download the VX1 golden edition BIOS (or whichever V6J one allows Core 2 Duo), and pop in a Core 2 Duo CPU...

I think you may have over seen the V6J?

Asus Notebook V6J / Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300 1.66GHz/ 1024M DDR2 RAM/ 100G 5400rpm HD/ NVidia GeForce Go7400 128MB,256MB with TurboCache™ / 15" XGA / SXGA / SXGA + Color Shine LCD/ Dual-L DVD R/W / SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO Card Reader/ Win XP Pro/

Other than that, yes the V6 series is going to be discontinued.

The whole LCD industry is moving to Widescreen formats, no more 4:3 aspects.

The sad thing is that the V6 series was one of the best 15" notebooks, In my opinion Asus could have given it the docking station ability, multi-bay, and U-dvi, and they could have kept it alive.

I also like the V6 series, you may want to check out the V1JP (15.4") but I doubt that interests you. (6.5lb)

As for other brands, I believe Dell may have something, not 100% sure anymore myself.

lenovo's T60p's can be had for around the same price (2k) with the specs you mentioned..though it would come with ATI's Mobility Fire GL V5250 256MB rather than the gaming version..weight should be close too
