Bob,

Do you know what would cause a laptop monitor to turn to a pink screen and then go out? The same problem is accruing with a CRT monitor that was hooked up after the laptops display went bad.

This is my moms Sony VIAO.

SO. Sounds like her screen turned pink (inverter issue?) and then after the LCD died, she hooked an external monitor up to the VGA port and now it's pink as well.

Does the inverter affect the VGA port ?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

A CCFL backlight tube itself will tend to turn pink with age.

Now if the video signal is jacked and is, say, missing its green component--i.e. white light minus its green component is magenta aka. pink--and an external display is showing the exact same pinkness, then the laptop's video hardware is screwed up bad. IOW, the laptop's LCD backlight isn't the problem.
