HP nx6325 Review

I got this laptop for school because it was cheap and looked go... boy was I in for a surprise.

Build Quality

Well its not to great. Both touch pad buttons broke off. Card slot died. PC card slot eject button will not stay in. One of the arrow keys broke off.. I stole.. i mean found a replacement.

If you hold it by a corner it flexes quite a bit.

Key board is spongy

Touch Pad was good til it broke.

We will get into the screen later.

CPU and Benchmarks

The cpu is an AMD Turion 64 X2. It gets VERY HOT! It burnt me while i was playing a game.

Display

Ok now we are getting to the worst part of the computer!. The Res sucks. Its a finger print magnet. If you have the Brightness all the way up you still cant see the display (very well) in normal lighting. BUT THE WORST PART IS: There are lines that run horizontally across the screen! They even show up in screen shots!!

imho you received a lemon, and should contact HP and demand a replacement unit.
I have the same model (but with TL-50) and have not experienced any of those issues- frame and keyboard are fairly solid, cpu occasionally gets warm and cooling fan "cycles" (but a notebook cooler pad eliminates that), and the ATI CC display settings allow adjusting for a variety of lighting conditions (although sunlight tends to "washout" the display- not uncommon).
Of the 4 previous notebooks I've owned over the last 12 years (NEC, Toshiba[2], and Acer), the HP is by far the most rugged and feature rich unit- convieniently located left and right side usb ports, right side firewire port, and front card reader slot, to name a few.
I also like the slightly recessed touchpad and keyboard which prevents unwanted tapping of touchpad while typing. The numeric keypad, editing and function keys, and buttons, are thoughfully placed, not to mention the keys and touchpad buttons are reasonably quiet.
The 1024 X 768 scree resolution could be a drawback for some (and I initially thought it was too), but for my usage (mainly internet browsing, email and word processing) that is not an issue.

I agree with what rb1 said above...

To the OP... contact HP and demand a replacement, send unit in for service.

I've got a Nx6325, and like the previous poster I've owned various laptops, built my own computers for many years and I find the build quality of the NX6325 pretty darn good.


My suggestion?
A better use of your time would be to contact HP and complain to them, as they are the ones that will be able to authorize a replacement, /repair of the unit. While I can understand the "need" to vent and all, to be fair to the mfg you should give them a chance to rectify problems before you go around bad mouthing them.

i also own a nx6325 but with a mobile sempron and i must say i'm shocked that you had such a terrible experience.

the lines on your screen must be related to your gfx card, it must be broken! i don't have any lines on my screen. the only drawback of the screen is the low-rez (which is great for old game such as c&c, age of empires, etc...) also the screen is pretty good illuminated. no light leakage etc.

the build quality is exceptionally well on my 6325! i owned various notebooks and none of them was so good!

its' also very quiet and cool to the touch!

and the best thing is, i got this baby for 480 euros which equals to roughly 430 dollars ( i think )!

battery life on my machine is around 4.30 hours surfing the web with highest screen brightness but with some undervolting on the cpu! so i think this is also really nice.

you really got a lemon there. call hp!

I got the same cpu as u, and urs is running an astounding 1/4th (.250) of a volt higher... My cpu never gets past 53*C, and thats under absolutely full load...I can see how urs at that voltage is pushing 80. You should check out undervolting, it really helps.

Hmmm, I have one that is a work notebook. Drag it around all over the place, day in, day out. So far, it has been just fine, in fact surprisingly so, given it's price range. It has fared far better than any of the previous Toshiba Satallites that we used to use.

It is reasonably solid, decent if not outstanding keyboard (I have never broken off a key on any laptop...)

Not to be argumentive, but why the HECK would you want to hold it by one corner anyways??? It was not designed to be handled that way. There are outstanding notebooks out there designed for very rugged "field-use", magnesium cases, shock-isolated hard drives, etc. but they do not sell anywhere in the neighborhood of the Presario, after all!


This is likely a discontinued model now, as the traditional screen notebooks are all but gone, but HP/Compaq has some newer, similar Presario models along the same general build, but of course in the widescreen format. From what I have seen, they are on about the same level, good, solid notebooks at unpretentious price points.
