Laptops for running MATLAB programs

Thread Starter
I am planning to purchase a new laptop and intend to use it for heavy
MATLAB programs and Visual C++ that could run for hours together?
Could you please suggest the best possible laptop configuration
(Processsor, RAM, Hard Disk Size) that would maximize the speed and
performance. Is Dell Inspiron E1405 (Core 2 Duo T5500, 80GB, 2GB RAM) a good choice?Could you please share your personal experience of using laptops with heavy programming applications?
Thank you.

You'll want something with a dedicated graphics card. Upper level programming classes require 3D programming. Integrated ones might not work too well/ be slow rendering graphics.

Inspiron E1505 comes with these two graphics options. Are any of these good enough?

128MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1300 HyperMemory

256MB ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1400 HyperMemory

Are you aware of any budget laptops (around $1000) that has a better video card? Thank you.

Not sure for visual c++ but for matlab i mostly use simulink in Matlab to do control systems and my buddy has an old sempron 2800+ laptop and it even runs matlab perfectly fine, so I dont think your going to need anything nuts. All depends what your going to do in Matlab.
