Looks like you can use 2100 or 2700. Check out the M505 spec's: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...1764sp42.shtml

This one only lists the 2100: http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...01764cl2.shtml

The PC3200 in my M675 is made by Micron, don't know who they use in the M505.

hmm, now im trying to find out whether its 2100 or 2700 thats already in the 505. What happens if its a 2100 but I add a 2700 stick?
i'm pretty sure they are a pair of 2100 inside.
I forgot to note what brand they were, but mine M505X came with two sticks of PC2700 256MB.

2700 eh?, thats good news but how do you know for sure and how can I check it myself? (not that i dont beleive u hehe)
Well, I guess I haven't really run any actual diagnostics tests that confirm it, but the sticks were physically labeled PC2700 333Mhz.

All the ones I have seen have had PC2700 memory. You can get a free program called CPU-Z from:

http://www.cpuid.com/

that will show you a great many details about the system, including memory speeds.

I opened up the ram slot to look and it just says HYNIX the company name but no speeds. I also used pc wizard and got the following results. It also says I have Hyundai Electronics ram when its clearly labeled hynix, why is that?. Also why does it say I have pc1200?

Memory Controller Information :
Memory Controller :DIMM, SDRAM
Number of connectors :2
Max. Module Size :1000 Mb
Max. Memory Size :2000 Mb
Supported Speed :70ns, 60ns
Supported Voltages :3.3v
Error Detection Method :No
Error Correction Capability :Unspecified
Current/Supported Interleave :1-way/1-way

Chipset Information :
Type :DDR-SDRAM PC1200
Frequency :75 MHz
FSB/DRAM Multiplier :1/1x
Channels :Single
ECC Diagnostic :YesMode
CAS Latency (tCL) :2.5 clocks
RAS to CAS (tRCD) :3 clocks
RAS Precharge (tRP) :3 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) :7 clocks
Read Delay (tRD) :4 clocks

That appears to be a bug, although I have seen mis-readings when the machine is not set to "Maximum Performance" in the BIOS power saving settings.

Please try CPU-Z instead of PC Wizard, though, as CPU-Z is more up to date.

It says the same thing that i have hyundai. Are they the same company or is it a conspiracy?

Hynix and Hyundai have tight ties (see http://www.hynix.com/eng/ and search for Hyundai to see their corporate history).
