Need some Advice on wireless Routers

I need some advice and hopefully someone will have some knowledge on wirelesss routers here to help me. I have 2 roomates and they use my wireless router including myself. So we always have 3 wireless computers conected to it. I like to play WoW in the evenings after work but 1 of my roomates starts dowloading lots of stuff from itunes. When he starts downloading I can tell right away because my ping to the server will go from 150 all the way to 2000. The third roomate is not much of an issue, all he does is email and surf the web but somtimes he uploads web pages that he creates on his macpro. Right now I have a Belkin G+ router but it cant handle what we are doing so any advice will greatly be appretiated. Thanks for any advice. Maybe a router where I can say pc on this mac address can only download no more then 300k to avoid me having issues while playing WoW?

It would be good to have a router you can set options for. Also, if needed there is a router (net gear rangemax) that has 7 antennas which would most likely help free up jams on any single antennae. I'm not sure about that, but I would think it to be true.

A new router wont do anything...its not the bandwidth of the wireless, its the bandwidth of the internet connection.

Theres not much you can do about it....downloading will always increase your ping...

Only thing you can do is ask your mate to set a limit on his download software to a set amount...most will let you do this...

Do any of ya know of a router where I can setup max downloads for a specific mac address? So you think its the cable modem that cant handle someone downloading at 400k without affecting me play WoW Scottsman?

The linksys wrt54g can do this using QoS.

You don't set speed caps or anything like that. Your prioritize services or mac addresses, etc. You could put yourself as highest priority, himself after that... This way, he can get full bandwidth, but when you need some, you'll have priority over him...

Yea, I think Dlink has a router that has these features. But there might be a software solution to limit his connection. Itunes has a butload of bandwidth and its maxing out your connection.

Go with a WRT54GL - you'll get a better router (same hardware as the original WRT54G's - the new versions are "neutered"), and you'll be able to install DD-WRT on it (3rd party firmware) that has the QoS (Quality of Service) you're looking for. Basically, you're telling the router to prioritize your WoW communications over the downloads. Just be sure to follow the instructions carefully when installing DD-WRT; also, download a copy of the linksys firmware before you do this in case you want to return to original specs.
