Major USB problem!

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook N6010. I've had it for just over 2 years. In October, the screen went out, and I had to have the inverter replaced. About a week after getting it back, a green vertical line about 2 pixels wide shows up on the right third of the screen. A few weeks later, a red one shows up on the left third of the screen. Then they went away. Then they came back. I have been too busy (and needed the computer) to send it back in. Then the real problems started. I keep all my data (images) on 9 external hard drives. Almost all of my peripherals are run through hubs. Suddenly, I couldn't access any of them. So I think one of the hubs may have gone bad. I plug a hard drive directly into the laptop's USB ports (all of them). Nothing. I plug the printer into the laptop USB port. It works, but needs to be re-installed. So I try all 9 hard drives in a different desktop PC, and they all work just fine. THe hub works just fine on the desktop. Everything works just fine on the desktop. Everything BUT the hard drives work fine on the laptop. I keep getting a message that the USB device is unknown. There are no drivers available for these hard drives (they are plug & play). I have done a complete reformat and re-image. No change. I am at a complete loss! Any one have any suggestions? Fujitsu tech support has been of no help. They just want to charge me another $600 to replace the mother board that may or may not be the problem. They have no idea.

Hi there! Looks like problem might really be on the mainboard... If you have the guts you would have to open the laptop and chech for possible connections of the USB ports of you computer. I have a GERICOM X5 Force P14G and lucky me I found on the internet a manual on how to dismantle my laptop. I did and I finally figured out how everything is connected in there... My laptop has 1 usb port on the left side and 2 usb ports on the right side. Well, all ports are removable, the connect to the motherboard with special connectors. I have managed to even find on eBay some of those connectors sold as spare parts. I'm currently having problems with my 2 USB ports on the right side, but i guess it has to deal with power problems... I'm about to order one of those spare parts. I'll tell you if it makes it work. Hope I have helped a bit. Thank you for reading! tariro PD: my brother & my dad have both a Fujitsu V2020 which have both had inverter problems on the first year!!! I'm very dissapointed with Fujitsu and I never recomend it again to any of my friends... PD: image of spare part posted here... http://i24.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/87/e5/618c_1_b.JPG
