Chipset upgrade??

So. I've been browsing the forums about cpu upgrades. I understand that if you want to upgrade from a intel P4 to a dual core you need a different chipset. My question is, is it possible to upgrade your chipset? And if possible, how much would it be?

A chipset is imbeded into the motherboard and can not be removed.

The best way to upgrade is to get a new mobo. No IF's or BUT's
LoL
The technology, Front Bus, Chip Architecture are different.
There no way it would be compatible.

Since the chipset is embedded into the motherboard, if I get a new motherboard would I be able to get a different chipset? and then, perhaps get a different processor?

That's what the other posters were getting at. The only way to change both the processor and chipset is to get another motherboard. I'm not sure if an upgraded mobo is available for your model--maybe others will chime in.

There are no motherboard upgrades that put a chipset compatible with Core2Duo's in the 98x0 chassis.

Hmmm.... ic ic. Thanks for all the feedback you guys, I really appreciate it. I learn something new every day. Do you guys think that perhaps in a year or two 9860 will have a mobo with a chipset that utilizes dual core?

Dont know. We really cant say.

I think Clevo may have scrapped the D900 chassis, personally. I doubt we'll see any more upgrades for it.

I too, own a 9880 and would like to upgrade a new mobo. What are our current options?
