Hi, I am looking to replace my touchpad/ surrounding area with new parts from dell as they look somewhat worn, and was wondering if i could use the piece from the e1505/6400 model. The buttons below the touchpad feel much nicer so if they are interchangeable that would be pretty cool. thanks.

Yeah, they use what is essentially the same chassis and should be fully interchangeable.

i pulled up pics from http://www.parts-people.com/,=they are a little different under the keypad area if anyone wants to take a look:

I'm still thinking about giving it a try though, the screws seem to be in different locations, hard to tell from the pics.

also, the piece is $35 from them, and that is used.

That's odd... I can understand some differences if different cooling requirements were needed for the GPU for example... but the x1400 doesn't run much hotter than the x300, nor does the Core Duo CPU's. It does look like a few screw holes are in different places and such... go ahead at your own risk I suppose.
