Hp Dv61xx DVD issues

Hi all,

I've had a dv6174cl since Oct06. Mostly this thing is awsome. I use it as my portable Windows lab to run about 4 w2K3 servers at the same time. The only drawback is the DVD drive.

On ocassion, either A) won't open the drive to let me insert media or B) won't spin the drive up like it is already in use. Sometimes, I can launch a video in WMP11 and then the DVD drive will pop open but may not spin up. Othertimes, the DVD will spin up when I try to eject the media.

I don't get this. The only thing that I can figure is that I have been running Alcohol 120 or Daemon tools to run ISOs for the lab. Could that be causing a conflict? Anyone else with similar issues?

I got this at Costco but I don't want to return it since there isn't anything comparable.

u can always remove the suspicious apps one at the time and see which one was the culprit
