About to purchase M1210, few quesitons?

I want to get one, because I am looking for a small Notebook with a good graphics card, and this is pretty much my only option.

I was curious about a few things:

What is the battery life like on the 6 cell battery vs the nine cell battery?

Will the laptop outperform my current setup in games; A64 3200+ 1MB, 1GB PC3200, 9700 Mobility, 1680x1050?

What price did ya'll pay for your M1210s?

And finally, do you know of any other laptops comparable to this one that would be cheaper, or do you know if price cuts/coupons/deals would be coming out through dell for this laptop in the near future?

Thanks everyone...

Battery life you are looking at maybe 3hrs with the 6-cell and stretching to 4 with the 9-cell; educated guesses based on my experience so if any owners want to chime in... (also remember will vary depending upon what configuration you choose and then how you use it).

Yep, will outperform that so long as you get C2D 2GHz+ and >1GB RAM, the 7400 go is faster than the mobility 9700.

There are some comparable notebooks from the likes of Sony, etc which combine portability and dedicated GPU (usually the 7400 go)... but they will not be cheaper than the M1210 by a long shot...

Thanks sakor. The reason I posed these questions is that I want to do the Dell financing deal, for they have no interest for 18 Months on XPS systems. I applied for the credit, and was granted $1500. To keep the price below $1500, I have to ditch the 9 cell, which is fine with me knowing the 6 cell will give me 3 hours. I am used to my ~1 hour current battery life with my laptop I have now. A sales associate is actually giving me a deal, free shipping + ~$130 discount so that it will make the cut. I plan on upgrading the ram once I get it ala Newegg or something.

Looks like I will be purchasing this laptop today or tomorrow!

I was on 3.5hrs on the 9cell but I wasnt really trying to get the most of it, could of got more if i tried. That time has dropped a bit to a little under 3 since i switched over to Vista though.

All and all a great little machine and would recommend it to anyone. Screen is the only thing that slightly lets it down but even then I still love it.

Cant comment to much on pricing as I'm based in the UK.

What qualms do you have with the screen?

EDIT: Damn... I just realized, it's probably not a glossy screen is it?

It's a glossy. It depends on which screen, there are tons (metric ones) of posts regarding the 3 different manufactors they could use. I had a Toshiba, and recently got an AUO. The AUO is better.

As far as keeping the price down, you can opt for the cd combo, then when you have the cash get the dvd burner later, same with memory, just get whatever is included, and buy more later, it'll be cheaper later anyway. Same with a Bluetooth card. The only thing I would make sure to do is get the Go7400, since it's part of the motherboard, you can't just add that later. If you can, go with the C2D 7200, it jumps the cache to 4 mb.

I can usually get 6-7 hours with the nine cell. The 6 cell is almost worthless unless you are just piddling about the house, want to check mail in the living room or something.

I have a core 2 duo 2.0 and 2 gigs of ram, and I can tell a significant difference between it and my 3 year old desktop. I believe I have an AMD 3000 something, I believe with 1 gig of ram

You will be able to multitask like a madman

buy the ram later, you will save a bit of moolah

Also, call in to order, and if possible put it on dell credit, you can get them to chop off a couple hundred (at least $200-$300)

and if you can order it through your school, if you are college student right now you can get 7% off and then 12% off, I constructed a $2500, and it went down to $2000 before tax. You should be able to get that down to maybe $1800.

^thats just an example, you could make a cheaper one and still get it bumped down a bit

Hope this helped

The only extra thigns I added to the Notebook were the 7400, and the Webcam/WAN antenna. Everything else was bare minimum. Came to $1507 before tax/shipping

I've located my school code, and I would get a 4% discount on my current configuration.
